Island County Economic Development Council

Island County Economic Development Council Created by Governor Booth Gardner's administration, the "Team Washington" program created an economic development organizational network.

The Island County Economic Development Council supports local businesses with free services, helps attract new investment, and advances workforce development to strengthen jobs and the economy of Whidbey and Camano Islands. Founded in 1985 by a Resolution of the Board of Island County Commissioners (RCW 43.330.080 and BOCC Resolution March 1985), the Economic Development Council for Island County

serves as a public / private forum where the entire community can plan and implement enhanced economic opportunity for all with the intent to bolster the Island's locally ran businesses and to encourage outside business to make Island County their new home. The EDC was created as a non-profit organization to link Washington State programs and local governments to partner with our business community. The ultimate goal of economic health is a more balanced and diversified economy which will enhance quality job opportunities and broaden our tax base. To implement these goals, we must seek compatibility with community needs and desires while enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life for our residents.

From fresh produce and flowers to local seafood, artisan foods, handmade goods, and live music, our farmers markets are an integral part of Island County’s local economy.

And here’s a fun fact: some of today’s biggest national brands got their start at local farmers markets, such as Poppi, the prebiotic soda company that grew from a small market stand into a nearly $2 billion acquisition by PepsiCo.

Here’s a look at the 2026 market season -- Which one will you visit this week?
