Friends of Ebey's The Friends of Ebey’s funds projects to protect, preserve, and enhance the cultural and natural resources of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve.

The Friends of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve works in cooperation with the Reserve’s Trust Board and National Park Service to fund projects and programs that protect, preserve, and enhance the cultural and natural resources and the visitor experience of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve. This includes fundraising, public outreach and educational activities and building public

awareness of the Reserve. The Friends of Ebey’s is the fundraising arm of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve. After a group of concerned citizens challenged a proposed development of Ebey's Prairie, Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve was created by Congress in 1978 to “preserve and protect a rural community which provides an unbroken historical record from… 19th century exploration and settlement in the Puget Sound to the present time.” Within the Reserve’s 17,000+ acres (the majority of which is privately owned), you’ll also find the historic seaside Town of Coupeville, three Washington State Parks, stunning landscapes and shorelines, hiking trails, and an awe inspiring agricultural landscape – many families have been farming the same land since the 1800’s. The Reserve is uniquely made up of an extended community and partnerships (including the Town of Coupeville, Island County, Washington State Parks and the National Park Service). You are part of that community. Friends of Ebey's raises funds to support the Trust Board's preservation and programming throughout the Reserve, ensuring the timeless quality of the Reserve remains for generations to come. It’s easy to understand why Friends of Ebey’s and our supporters endeavor to help preserve this unique cultural landscape.

Although she lived a long and deeply fulfilling life, we are saddened by the passing of Nancy Nordhoff. The creation of our nonprofit partner Friends of Ebey's , and the inception of the Ebey’s Forever Grant Program were all made possible through Nancy’s extraordinary generosity and vision. And, there is so much more...

In countless ways—both seen and unseen—Nancy played a vital role in forging partnerships that have helped protect the Reserve’s beauty, working landscapes, and historic character. Historic buildings throughout the Reserve will always carry her legacy, a lasting reminder of her commitment to preservation and community. She loved old buildings and taught us that when they disappear so do their stories.

In that same spirit of continuity and stewardship, we also wish to share that we are just days away from releasing the Ebey’s Forever Grant Program 2026 application, and more details will be shared very soon. We know Nancy would be proud to see this tradition of community-supported preservation continue.

Rest well, dear Nancy, we will see you every day in our beloved landscape.

Today is , the global day of generosity. If you are able, please consider a gift to Friends of Ebey's to support the Trust Board of Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve as they rebuild staffing and programing after cuts to funding. The Reserve was created to preserve and protect a rural community and is an exercise in public/private partnership. Indeed, partnership and community have made all the difference. Thank you for making this good work possible. friendsofebeys.org/support

Did you know Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve has one of the highest concentrations of historic structures in the US? Caring for historic structures is relentless. Luckily, our good friends at Washington Trust for Historic Preservation have two grant opportunities accepting applications through Oct. 19 and 26. Three cheers for Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation!

What comes to mind when we say 'Pratt?' Regardless of how much or little you know about the Pratt family, local historian Lee James will undoubtedly be able to shed some new light on this impressive family who owned iconic land and structures within Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve and whose foresight is a key reason many of these structures are still accessible to the public. Thursday, July 17 at 3 pm at the historic Pratt Sheep Barn - be there or be 🟩. Thank you Lee James and Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve Trust Board for hosting this great event!
