WTC expands paid employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities in Chicagoland

Breaking down employment barriers for young adults with autism, learning disabilities and developmental disabilities. People with disabilities can have great success in the workplace when they have the right supports and are given a chance. Despite the fact that the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed more than 25 years ago, people with disabilities still struggle to access employment. More than 70% of people with disabilities are un/underemployed, and many live in poverty because of over-reliance on governmental support. WTC is convinced that the way to bridge the current employment gap is by working together across sectors with the common goal of generating new approaches that re-imagine what is possible!

Last week, Brandon joined Charlie at the BPNC Health Fair & Fiesta at Kelly High School.

As a proud Kelly High School graduate and an active member of his community, Brandon returned to the very place where his journey began. Brandon continues to receive therapy through Center for Independence’s CE-IT programs while also building his career with Working Together Chicago.

Thursday, he had the opportunity to share the very resources that have helped him get to where he is today with members of his own community.

Watching Brandon in action was incredibly powerful. He connected people with vital services that many didn’t even know existed, demonstrating the impact that access, opportunity, and lived experience can have.

Thank you to BPNC for hosting such a wonderful event, and thank you to all of the organizations that came out to share the incredible work you do. Together, we’re making our communities stronger, one connection at a time.
