Our 2025 Paul & Janis Bosch recipient is Ethan Lif.

Even at a young age, Ethan demonstrated a strong passion for engineering. Fascinated by the inner workings of household appliances, he often took things apart just to see how they functioned. So, when a classmate invited him to join the school’s robotics team, it felt like the perfect opportunity to explore that passion further. What began as curiosity quickly grew into a defining experience that would shape who he is today.

Upon joining the robotics team, Ethan had no idea how deeply it would influence his future. Through robotics, he learned the engineering design process and discovered that even the most complex challenges can be overcome through determination, teamwork, and creative thinking. He also learned that the best solutions come from incorporating diverse perspectives and working together toward a common goal. Robotics pushed him beyond his comfort zone and helped prepare him for life beyond high school.

After graduation, Ethan plans to attend Wichita State University, where he is especially excited about the hands-on opportunities offered through the Engineering Plus program. The chance to work on real-world research projects and participate in internships is a key reason for choosing WSU. With major engineering companies like Spirit AeroSystems, Airbus, Boeing, and Bombardier located in Wichita, the city presents countless opportunities for growth in the field.

Ethan knows the path ahead won’t be easy—engineering is a rigorous field filled with tough classes, long study hours, and unexpected setbacks. But he is ready for those challenges. While at WSU, he also plans to get involved in student engineering clubs, build strong relationships with professors, and make the most of his college experience.

Looking ten years ahead, Ethan envisions himself working on meaningful projects—building machines, developing clean energy systems, or designing technologies that improve everyday life. His goal is to contribute to the next wave of innovation and make a positive impact through his work. He is eager to begin this next chapter at Wichita State University.

Congrats, Ethan!

Congratulations, Ethan!
