💚Mayday Alert for FF Chuck Jones’ family💚

Council Bluffs, IA - Chuck Jones was a 19-year veteran of the Council Bluffs Fire Department and a 19-year member of IAFF Local 15. On the morning of October 5, Chuck was serving on Engine 61; during the fire, Chuck began showing signs of distress but remained on duty. Later that morning, while responding to a medical call, his condition worsened and he began exhibiting signs of a stroke. He was transported by his fellow firefighters to the emergency department and later transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Chuck was surrounded by his parents, wife, two daughters, and fellow firefighters.

Ten years ago, Chuck overcame cancer, and rather than stepping away, he returned to work and remained there for his family, his fellow firefighters, and his community. He was dedicated to his profession, regularly attending training and bringing what he learned back to share with his fellow firefighters. Chuck was a mentor, friend, and dependable presence through cancer, COVID-19, severe Midwestern weather, flooding, and staffing challenges. Let’s show up for his family the way he showed up for his community.

Rest in Peace Brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chuck’s family and the Council Bluffs Fire Department. Chuck’s legacy of service, dedication, and kindness will live on.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Firefighter / Medic Charles Jones, who died Thursday, October 8, following a medical emergency after responding to a structure fire on Monday, October 5, 2026.

For 19 years, Firefighter Jones was a valued member of the Council Bluffs Fire Department, responding to emergencies and helping residents during some of their most difficult moments. He will be remembered for his contributions to the department and the many lives he touched along the way.

“Charles Jones dedicated 19 years of his life to protecting and serving this community. His passing is a tremendous loss for our entire department,” said Chief Robert Schoening. “We are grateful for his service, his friendship, and the lasting impact he made on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.”

“The loss of firefighter Charles Jones is heartbreaking for our entire Council Bluffs community,” said Mayor Jill Shudak. “Charles dedicated himself to serving and protecting others, answering a calling that requires courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those around him.”

The City of Council Bluffs extends its deepest condolences to Charles’s wife, children, family, friends, and fellow firefighters and asks the community to keep his loved ones in their thoughts while respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

Information regarding memorial services and opportunities for the community to honor Firefighter / Medic Jones will be shared when available and in coordination with his family.

Happy EMS Week from Lewis Township Fire and Rescue!
This year's EMS Week theme is "Improving Outcomes, Together" and that phrase means something real here at LTFR. Today we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible men and women on our department who wear both a badge and a stethoscope.
Becoming an EMT requires a minimum of 120–150 hours of classroom, lab, and clinical training before ever sitting for a national certification exam. Becoming a Paramedic takes that foundation and multiplies it, typically 1,200 to 1,800 hours of advanced education covering pharmacology, cardiac care, airway management, trauma, and much more. And the commitment doesn't stop at certification. Both EMTs and Paramedics must complete continuing education hours every two years just to maintain their licenses.
At Lewis Township Fire and Rescue, we are proud to have:
10 Nationally Certified Paramedics
16 Emergency Medical Technicians
4 EMTs currently in Paramedic school or actively testing for National Paramedic Certification
That's 26 EMS-certified personnel, 4 of whom are pushing toward the next level. These are your neighbors, your volunteers, the people who show up at the worst moments of someone's life, ready to act.
EMS providers aren't just an add-on to the fire service they are integral to the mission. The ability to deliver basic or advanced life support on scene, often before a transport unit arrives, saves lives in our community every single day.
To every EMT and Paramedic at LTFR- thank you for the hours you've invested, the certifications you've earned, and the commitment you bring to this great community.

Hello Mcclelland Community,

We wanted to make you aware that the town tornado siren is currently not operational. It is in the midst of a major upgrade and the electricians working on things are waiting on parts to arrive that have been on order since before severe weather season began.

While we anticipate this work to be completed in the near future, it doesn’t help with this weekends potential severe weather forecast.

Please have multiple ways of being notified of severe weather.

We are also posting a link in the comments to Pottawattamie Counties Alert Iowa program that we highly recommend as an option to receive notifications. If you haven’t signed up for it please consider doing so.
