🚨 POSTPONED: The RiverFront Community Concert Featuring the Omaha Symphony with Legends of Country 🚨
Due to the threat of inclement weather, tonight's "The RiverFront Community Concert Featuring the Omaha Symphony with Legends of Country" concert has been postponed to Sunday, July 5th. The show will begin at 8:30 PM at Gene Leahy Mall this Sunday.

Each year the Council Bluffs Guild of the Omaha Symphony awards a $2,000 music scholarship through the Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation for a SWI student pursuing a degree in music. 📣 This year’s recipient was Daniel Cannon!

Daniel Cannon is the son of Joplyn and Shawn Cannon and a recent graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School with dual enrollment at Iowa Western Community College in A.A.S. Audio Engineering. He graduated 2nd in his class with an impressive 4.41 GPA and will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall to study music with a focus in Production and Composition.

Daniel is a very accomplished young individual with some of his honors including AP Scholar with Distinction, College Board National Recognition Program Recipient, Governor’s Scholar, Presidential Scholar Candidate, National Merit Commended Scholar, Boys State Outstanding Band Member, and Iowa Western Academic Student Athlete of the Year. Daniel is also the first student in AL’s Early College Academy program to purse Audio Engineering. Additionally, he’s even produced some of his own original music.

To quote Daniel “Music is important to me because it creates so many opportunities to connect, collaborate, and just have fun! Music is community and community is life!”

Daniel performed on the banjo, playing Grandfather's Clock; a vocal solo, There Was a Mighty Monarch; and an original rap song, Magic Milk Straw, at our Spring Party: Strings on High event.

It was a wonderful evening at last night’s Spring Party: Strings on High! Guests enjoyed beautiful music from the Nova String Quartet, a delicious spread of food and drinks, and a special performance by our SWI Music Education Scholarship recipient, Daniel Cannon. The evening was topped off by honoring Judy Davis for her many years of dedicated service to the Council Bluffs Guild of the Omaha Symphony. 💫

Plus, the Council Bluffs Guild presented a check for $8,000 to the Omaha Symphony which directly supports music programming and outreach in Southwest Iowa! 🎶
