The October theme of our Rotary meetings is "Economic Development & Growth." We had the fortune of a talk from Paula Hazelwood from Advance Southwest Iowa Corporation yesterday and learned about some of the exciting projects in the works.

We are looking forward to a visit from Iowa Economic Development Authority's Director of Development, Debi Durham coming up on October 22. That meeting is open to the public, and we encourage everyone to stop by to find out more about the new development projects happening in our state. Please spread the word!

We experienced 26 miles of inspiration with fellow Rotarian Cara Cool-Trede's talk about her experience with the New York City Marathon.

She compared the lessons of training and running the big event with our experiences in Rotary. "No one does it alone," and "You don't have to see the finish line to keep moving." -- just a few of the inspirational tidbits she shared at our meeting last Thursday.

Thanks again to Cara for all that she does for Rotary and the community.

Last week, Lindsay Toussant Brown stopped by Rotary seeking thoughts and opinions about ways to help grow the city of Council Bluffs. Everyone was able to add insight whether they were born and raised in CB or if they moved here just a few years ago.

If you'd like to stay up-to-date on all of the plans, follow Celebrate Council Bluffs, Iowa and share with your neighbors.

Thank you to Lenli Corbett Kountz from Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue for stopping by yesterday and talking about how to eliminate food waste and help get nutritious, healthy food to people who need it.

We learned that 30% of food that is produced gets thrown away, but with some thought and intervention, that resource can be directed to people who can benefit. Not to mention, eliminating food waste is great for the planet, so it's a win-win-win! (There's probably a few other wins in there too.)

How wonderful is it that there are organizations who find solutions to problems in our community! Find out more: https://www.savinggracefoodrescue.org/

Keith Jones from Edward Jones dropped some poignant insight last week during our Thought & Song segment of our weekly meeting. Realizing that we only have so many opportunities -- so many First Days of School, so many Christmas mornings, so many Father's/Mother's Days -- means that it's important to savor each one and live every moment like it the precious resource it is.

If you haven't been to a Rotary meeting lately, you're missing out on connection and conversation. If you've NEVER been to a Rotary meeting, you should check us out. Send us a DM for more information about what we're all about.
