Mamie L. Bass Service Award
The Mamie L. Bass Community Service Award was established by the International Board of Directors
in July 1963, as a memorial to the first national president of Altrusa. The name was changed to the
Mamie L. Bass Service Award by the International Board of Directors in July 1975. Its objectives are:
1. To stimulate interest in developing action programs in the community falling within the scope
of Altrusa’s program of service.
2. To encourage members of local Clubs to participate actively on service projects designed to
meet specific local needs.
3. To recognize outstanding Club achievement in service to the community.

April 21, 2026–Community Service
Altrusan Jean Paul delivered five boxes of books to the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands in Council Bluffs. She also delivered three boxes to Mohm’s Place in Council Bluffs. Thank you Jean! Mary Jo Hopfensperger does an excellent job of running our book donation program. She organizes us from the collection of books, sorting, packing, storing and contacting community agencies to coordinate deliveries. It’s a huge job and we appreciate Mary Jo’s leadership skills and dedication to “enhancing literacy one book at a time.”

CONGRATULATIONS!! our Council Bluffs club awarded First Place Mamie L. Bass Service in our 70th District Seven Conference in Marshfield, WI. We receive $100 from Altrusa International Foundation and our entry will be included in next Altrusa International 2027 Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Great job all members with the project!

This is our Council Bluffs Club conference International Foundation Auction basket “Wild Things” with Peanuts, Gummy Bears, Chocolate covered nuts, Terry Bear, Black Squirrel, Blanket, Corn, Honey & Jar and puzzle.

As of right now, our Bid Amount is $60 and it looks like two attendees are bidding for it…and we are only half way first day….I think our Bid is will get higher!
