We love prelude and postlude music and it is always a blessing to hear both. Do you have a favorite to listen to? If you're a church musician, what is your favorite to play?

Dear Friends,

Sometimes we get discouraged and speak negatively. Sometimes we say, "Kids don't like to eat their vegetables" or "kids don't mind their parents anymore" or maybe we just say "kids these days!" Of course, sometimes these kinds of thoughts have some truth in them. But you know what, other times it might be ok to bite our tongues!

I have the blessed opportunity to travel the country meeting "some kids." This year, I've been in Kansas City Kansas, Watonga Oklahoma, Norfolk Nebraska, Murray Utah, DeWitt Michigan and Cullman Alabama all to start parish-based music conservatories. In each of these places, I've met kids. In one place, I met Lydia.

Lydia Bucklew stole my heart the first time I met her. First of all, because she shares a name with my oldest daughter! Secondly, because she was bright-eyed, eager, interested and literally sat in the middle of one of the first meetings I had with the leadership of Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. At that time, Lydia, all but a 16-year old, already had 4-5 piano students. She was also filling in locally for church services on organ in the Norfolk area at other LCMS churches when needed on Sunday mornings. At last Sunday's Launch Recital at Grace, she, along with fellow high schoolers Noah Asbury and Spencer Sindt performed beautifully and stole the show with their maturity and musicality. It was a blessed thing to see! What great kids!!!

When we say things like "kids these days" we are overgeneralizing and presenting ourselves negatively and not helping anyone out. I like to stand on the side of positivity, optimism and participation in culture transformation. You know the best way to transform culture? Smile. And, if you have time, be positive and encourage your neighbor.

Today, I want to encourage you by telling you about "KIDS THESE DAYS!" Kids like Lydia, and Noah and Spencer! They are doing great things, they are blessings to their families and their congregations and to the Church at large, which likely includes you!

Join me in giving thanks to God for His grace given in Christ Jesus and for the opportunity to work together to raise up the next generation of musicians for the Church and for communities all across the country.

David's Harp has been helping to develop conservatories for many years now. One of the biggest roadblocks for people have been the insurance questions. We help conservatories navigate that and so we are excited to host this webinar this month.

Congratulations Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk, NE at the Launch of your very own GRACE SCHOOL OF MUSIC!

I couldn't be more proud of organist Emily Carlson and Pastor Chris Asbury and the congregation of Grace for what they have done in crafting their School of Music. Since our kickoff meeting in March, Grace has been working at putting all the details together to start this wonderful ministry. A recent recipient of the Nebraska District "Mission Ignition" Grant and now a formal member of the DAVID'S HARP FAMILY OF PARISH BASED MUSIC CONSERVATORIES, Grace is well on its way to raise up the next generation of musicians for the LCMS and the Norfolk community!

Dear David's Harp friends!

I can't tell you enough how proud I am of our recent conservatory starts! Our Savior Lutheran in Kansas City, Kansas, Mt. Calvary Lutheran in Watonga, OK and tomorrow, Grace Lutheran in Norfolk, NE! These churches are on fire for MISSIONS AND MUSIC THAT SPEAKS OF CHRIST in their own contexts. LCMS Districts are paying attention to the "boots on the ground" work of David's Harp and these churches. Note that Grace, Norfolk was just awarded a Mission Ignition Grant from the Nebraska District for their great work. Grace will launch this weekend with around 9 teachers and over 20 students!!!! Thanks be to God! Please join us in praying for our friends at Grace Lutheran in Norfolk, NE and all of our other conservatory starts around the country!
