Tomorrow, Thursday May 14th 2026, at 6:30 p.m., the Council Bluffs Police Department will host its annual Police Memorial Ceremony at the Council Bluffs Police Station located at 1 Ezra Jackson Way.
Along side the Council Bluffs Police Department will be the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Patrol.

The Council Bluffs Police Department sent seven members to the annual Iowa Peace Officer Association Conference this week in Altoona, Iowa.

The two-day conference provided valuable training and professional development opportunities for law enforcement officers from across the state. Guest speakers included retired Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb, who presented on PTSD and mental health within law enforcement; Iowa DCI Special Agent in Charge Adam DeCamp and Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante, who shared lessons learned from the 2024 Perry School Shooting; and former Minnesota prosecutor Imran Ali, who discussed notable cases from his career and insights from his time in prosecution.

The department remains committed to ongoing training and education to better serve and protect the Council Bluffs community.

Saturday, the FOP Lodge #1 hosted the 25th annual Shop with a Cop. The Council Bluffs Police Department was able to help 83 kids have a better Christmas!

Lt. Geer was hired in 1996 and served on various shifts of the Uniform Division until 2009, with 2 years spent in CID from 2001-2003. He was recognized as one of Iowa's Top Cops in 1999 after catching 3 bank robbery suspects. He also received the department Purple Heart in 2001 for an injury sustained while taking a suicidal person into custody. In 2023, he was involved in a pursuit and OIS capture of a homicide suspect from Omaha. From 2009-2011, he went back as a Supervisor in the Uniform Division on both B and C shift. He finished his career as the A Shift Lieutenant. Lt Geer was also an Operator, Team Leader and Team Commander for the Emergency Service Team from 1998-2023. Congratulations on your retirement! We carry on with pride!

The Council Bluffs Police Department hosted a Youth Police Academy for middle school students from the Council Bluffs Community, which was sponsored by the Council Bluffs Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #1. Over the course of five-days, participants were introduced to various aspects of law enforcement operations including; K-9 Demo, Self-Defense, Crime Scene Processing, Fi****ms Safety, Able 1 Visit, and Equipment Demonstration. Thank you to everyone that made this event successful!
