More Than Self MoreThanSelf is a non profit organization established to help the Mayan families in Guatemala.

MoreThanSelforg is a 501 c (3) dedicated to creating hope and changing lives of families in Guatemala. Funds for the various projects are generated through the purchase of hand created textiles crafted by families in Guatemala and brought to the US for resale. The profits from these sales are then donated back to students to cover school expenses and to other organizations creating clean drinking

water for the children in schools and families. Donations are also accepted and passed on to the various projects chosen by the contributor.

Teachers in Guatemala are working but not getting paid by the federal government so they are demonstrating this week by blocking the roads. There are very few non political effective ways to draw attention to worker problems. Blocking the major highways and stopping commerce makes headlines. This will happen all night for possibly 2-3 days. Hopefully something will change.

School lunch in Panimache Quinto Bajo.
Cooked fresh daily with no processed foods. The women in the community work daily as volunteers to prepare the food, cook and do all of the clean up. Truly a community effort. The food is basic and the smells and taste is amazing.

We were visiting the community of Panimache Quinto Bajo and this women asked for a ride up the very steep 2 mile hill. She had picked a few wild edible mushrooms and was planning to sell them at the main road at the top of the hill. Naturally we gave her the baby and her little basket of mushrooms a ride up the hill. I hope she got a ride back down when her basket was empty.
