Archaeological finds are critical to understanding the past, and sharing them is critical to our future. That's where digital media comes into play - capturing content for preservation so that history can be shared with all!

As shown in the article post on Qumran, Yakov holds a pot from the cave, and this is an example of gorilla content development as UVU students capture what is known as an Object VR of the famous Copper Pot found in the recent excavations. The excavations are led by our very own Dr. Oren Gutfeld, lead archaeologist for the Beit Lehi Regional Project.

What's intersting about this video? This represents gorilla 'photography' capture at its best. Location was at the Dan Hotel, Jerusalem, in the room of Digital Media students, at 2:00 am. The Hebrew University at Jerusalem was closed after an all-day work session at Beit Lehi and the cataloging had to be done before the opportunity was lost. No showers - just straight to work. Watch the pot closely as it turns in-sync with the camera controlling the shots. Other objects were also photographed from the Beit Lehi site – all slated for cataloging in a digital archive for later use in media publications and scientific research. All part of the job!

When the Beit Lehi Regional Project is associated with archaeologists like this, it is reassuring the work being done on the site is in good hands. A very nice read of the work being done at Qumran, Israel, with Oren Gutfeld and others leading the charge. Who knows what the future holds for Beit Lehi?

Winter excavation yields information on how an ascetic desert community lived and where it hid its precious sacred texts -- and gives pointers for where to search next
