📦 USPS Shipping Update Coming July 12, 2026

The USPS is changing how DIM (dimensional) weight is calculated and updating its package measurement rounding rules.

Dimensional Weight Change:
Dimensional weight pricing applies to packages that exceed 1,728 cubic inches (one cubic foot). The divisor used to calculate shipping costs for larger, lightweight packages will change from 166 to 139.

This change will increase shipping costs for many large lightweight packages because USPS believes it more accurately reflects the amount of space packages occupy in the transportation network.

Updated Rounding Rules:
USPS is moving to a consistent rounding rule for all package dimensions.

Any fraction of an inch must now be rounded up to the next whole inch.

Examples:
• 12.1 inches rounds up to 13 inches
• 13.1 inches rounds up to 14 inches

⚠️ Important Tip:
Don’t rely solely on the printed dimensions shown on a box. Many manufacturers list the inside dimensions, not the outside measurements used for shipping calculations.

Boxes should be measured from outside corner to outside corner for:
• Length
• Width
• Height

Measuring and rounding correctly will help avoid postage adjustments, delays, nonrefundable returns, or delivery issues.

📦 USPS Shipping Update

The U.S. Postal Service is introducing a temporary 8% price increase on select shipping services due to rising transportation costs.

What’s changing:
• Applies to: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, Parcel Select
• No change to First-Class Mail (stamps)
• Effective: April 26, 2026 – Jan 17, 2027 (pending approval)

Expect slightly higher rates starting late April.

🚨 IMPORTANT USPS UPDATE – DON’T LET YOUR PACKAGE GET SENT BACK 🚨

Starting March 16, 2026, USPS is cracking down on APO/FPO/DPO mail to enforce required customs declarations requirements (HS code, item weight, etc.). If your package is missing the right customs details, it will be returned to sender.

📦 You MUST have a properly completed, computer-generated customs form if your mail:
• Contains any goods
• Weighs 16 oz or more
• Is sent via Priority Mail Express

⚠️ Paper forms won’t cut it. Customs data must be electronically submitted.

👉 If you ship to or from military or diplomatic addresses, now is the time to double-check your process before enforcement begins.
