Flash back to our trip this summer to Old Town San Diego! What a fun trip on the train to San Diego from the Santa Ana Station. We took 40 teens to the wonderful museums, plaza and historic area of Old Town via Amtrak. It was the first time for all of them on the train! What a fun experience! And so much fun to participate in Ballet Folklorico dances on the stage in the plaza. After lunch on the grounds we visited the museums and some even went into the Haunted House. It was a long day but a highlight of the summer with our students and four staff members. Thanks for a great summer! School tomorrow! See you at SOY!

What a fun week we had at OCC’s School of Sailing and Seamanship the last week of July! We learned to sail in the beautiful Newport Harbor thanks to OCC! SOY really knows how to help us learn new skills and enjoy our surroundings so close to home! What a great summer!

Throwback to July 23rd when we took 40 kids to the OC Fair thanks to the OC Fair Board! What a fun summer activity! Nothing beats the fair with the rides, good food, animals, exhibits, pig races and good friends! What a fun day! Thanks again OC Fair Board for the tickets!

What a great way to finish SOY Summer—a week of surfing! So cool to see our youth learn to surf! Thanks so much for the incredible volunteers and staff who taught them! Especially Gary Crane who led the group all week! Starting out with just standing on the boards to catching waves by the end of the week! Thanks also to Dawn Kerrigan and John Gothard and Ale who is on the CDM surf team…he and his friends James and Evan also helped his fellow NMUSD students to learn to surf! Thanks also to Volcom and Newport Board Club and Frog House and Edward’s Life Science who over the years donated boards and wetsuits for our students to be able to experience the waves so close to their homes! Thanks to everyone! Fun and beautiful event!

Hilbert Museum Trip and Chapman University Tour! What a fun day in the Orange Circle! Students toured the Hilbert museum and visited with Mr. Hilbert himself! They were led by a wonderful docent and had time to draw and create themselves! Then they had lunch in the Orange circle and toured Chapman University. What a beautiful campus! 7th graders to 12th graders were able to imagine themselves there one day!

Summertime at SOY!
Fun activities for all! 85 registered summer students with choices to participate in a variety of programs and events! Friday swim at the YMCA, Mr Irrelevant Beach Day, Angels Game, Youth Council, Art class, fashion club, Bike and Bus to the beach, soccer, book club, wellness walk and journaling, senior financial literacy, guitar, piano and drum classes, and spin classes! Tons to choose from! Thanks to our partners for helping us provide fun activities for our students: Newport-Mesa YMCA, Angels Foundation, OC Youth Sports Foundation, Mr. Irrelevant Week and the City of Costa Mesa.

What a great night at Angel Stadium! Thanks to the Angel Foundation for the tickets and thanks to the OC Youth Sports Foundation for the Angel Cards for food. The kids enjoyed the game and the Angels won! 5-1! So much fun! Great time! Thanks to the Newport Rib Company too for the sliders before the game! What a great summer event!

SOY’s Summer Program starts on Monday! There are tons of different types of activities from arts and crafts to sports and wellness, book club and tutoring for those in summer school, swimming, and tons of field trips!
