Pomerene Center for the Arts

Pomerene Center for the Arts Founded in 1984 with a mission to promote community involvement in the arts

The Pomerene Center for the Arts is housed in the Johnson-Humrickhouse Home built in 1836 by Anna (nee Johnson) and George Silliman. George was a well-traveled attorney who had seen the splendid homes of the South as well as the classic architecture of Europe while serving as US ambassador to Spain. His knowledge of and interest in architectural design was reflected in the construction of his home

, currently listed on the National Historic Register as a premier example of Greek Revival architecture. Their only son having preceded them in death, the Sillimans left the property to Anna’s siblings, four of whom had married into the Humrickhouse family (thus the elided name). With encouragement from estate executer Warner Pomerene, two Johnson Brothers left the house and their extensive collections of Asian and Native American art and artifacts to what is now the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum in Roscoe Village. The house was in extreme disrepair and was eventually restored by Lora and Warner Pomerene who lived in the house until the early1980’s. In keeping with the generosity of the Johnson Brothers, the Pomerenes left the house to the community upon their deaths.

Do you have a high school student interested in performing with a summer jazz band? Assuming there is enough interest, pomARTS is excited to sponsor a summer high school jazz ensemble led by Sheldon Stotts, a 2023 River View graduate.

Practices will be held on Sunday evenings at the artPARK. If you know a student who may be interested, please scan the QR code or contact Sheldon directly for more information.

We'd love to welcome new musicians for a summer of learning, collaboration, and great music!

"When words fail, music speaks."
-Hans Christian Andersen

This is such a fitting quote for this picture. It was phenomenal to hear how quiet the audience was when the Alphorn started playing.

Thank you to the Chardon Polka Band and for everyone who came last Friday!

One of the most important questions we ask ourselves after every event is, "What could we have done better?" Rather than trying to answer that question on our own, we figured it would be better to ask you!

If you attended the Polka Dance on Friday, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. We invite you to take our super quick, anonymous, five-question survey. Four of the five questions are multiple choice, and all questions are completely optional. 😁

Your responses will help us learn more about our audience and provide valuable insight as we continue planning, improving, and growing our programs throughout the season.

Thank you for helping us make the artPARK experience even better!

What a fascinating presentation for our 3 Sisters Planting event tonight! Thank you to Geronimo Ramirez and Diego for demonstrating this ancient planting method which was used all over the Americas and still in practice in 1776 at the time America was being founded. What a wonderful way to start our schedule of events for the 250 Celebration of America! 🇺🇸

Last Call! for Pancakes and music. FAMILIER but NEW-ISH. final concert with Diamond in the Rough. October 12, 4:30-6p. artPARK. OUR CLAIM — there's no better way to transition from the weekend to a busy week ahead.
IT’S A SIMPLE IDEA: on Sunday afternoons during homecoming season (September — mid-October) the POM is bringing musicians to the artPARK to perform while the rest of us kick back, eat pancakes and clap. All musicians have two things in common — 1. They live, or have lived, or work in Coshocton County or have friends and family who do. 2. They all write their own music.
WE’LL BE SERVING PANCAKES COOKED ON OUR WOOD-FIRED FLATOP GRILLS for a donation. All donations will be used to help fund the upkeep of the artPARK.
