UPDATE on Hooofie Bluegrass and Lalydama Bluegrass. Hooofie developed a huge softball size knot on his neck where it was laying on rim of trough and he was throwing his head back and forth therefore causing the knot. We thought it was an abscess but it is not. The knot has opened up and we are treating the open wound with Furazone and treating the open wound under his right front leg that was on the rim of the trough as well that he hurt when trying to get out of the trough. We are treating that by rotating using Furazone and Honey Wound Gel every three days. He is on 10 pills of SMZ antibiotics twice daily and down to 1/4 Previcox once daily to help swelling and any pain. He does not mind us treating the wounds. He does not flinch or act like they hurt him. We started nightly checks on his temp last night and it was good at 100.4. The first time I took it last night it was 99.9 but he farted in my face immediately after inserting the thermometer so maybe the air from the fart cooled it down! LOLOL! He is eating really well and acting totally normal like nothing is wrong. He is not getting stiff anymore so his joints and muscles must be feeling better. He still has a long time for those open wounds to heal. The vet can't get to our farm until May 22nd but the vet and vet tech are guiding me through this and I give updates daily with photos. My small animal vet has been helping me with medications that he has cheaper too. He is on the mend but it is not as fast as Momma would like.
Lalydama Bluegrass started showing signs of Heaves on the Wednesday after Hooofie's accident on Good Friday. I finally found somewhere to order Tri Hist at a decent, but still expensive, price to get him some relief until vet can get to him to get him on steroids. Thankfully weather is cooling a bit to help. We have multiple fans in their shelter to help Dama's breathing and flies from Hooofie's injuries.
TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS VERY MUCH NEEDED with the expenses we are enduring that we were not prepared for. We are already at around $700 with all we have had to purchase in medications already. We still have a awhile for Hooofie's wounds to heal and more medication to purchase. The Honey Wound Gel for a small jar is $54.75 and the Furazone (if you can still find it since being taken off market) is $20.00, Previcox for month is approx $30. I had to buy a cover to go over his neck to keep neck wound from getting hit on something which is was $53.54. A lot of supplies needed, just to name a few Sterile Saline & 60cc Syringe, Gloves, Sryinges, etc. I have spent $200 in gas driving to different vets to get different medications and have had to take off many days that have totaled a week in days to stay home to keep and eye on them both.
Dama's Heaves will be an ongoing thing. A small bottle Tri Hist costs $67 before shipping. We will have a HUGE vet bill when they come to the farm. It cost $100 just to get them to the location then you have to pay for all supplies and meds they do. We are looking at expenses getting higher than $1500 just for two horses not to mention our vet bills we have already for our small special needs animals. Any amount will be truly helpful for us to continue the quality of care we give to all of the animals in both Cheyenne's Hope Farm Sanctuary & H**ejebe Bluegrass Standardbred Retirement Organization Divisions.
