⚽️Kicking It at Soccer Day Camp⚽️

Our camper spent the Tuesday building their soccer skills through drills, games and friendly competition while learning the science (like scoring probability), healthy living and sportsmanship. All players went home with new 4-H water bottles and soccer workbooks to build on their knowledge.

Thank you to Ginny Kjer, Youth Program Specialist/ Stem Sports for leading out camp.

We are halfway through of summer day camps so stay tuned for what’s next!

Thank you to NEW Cooperative for their continued support of the Wayne County 4-H program!

Through their generous Friends of 4-H donation, we are able to keep 4-H enrollment fees at just $5 per member. This support helps make 4-H accessible to more youth while providing opportunities for hands-on learning, out-of-classroom experiences, exclusive workshops, scholarships, leadership development, and volunteer service.

4-H is for all youth in grades 4-12, regardless of background or experience. We invite families to discover how 4-H can help young people grow into confident, capable leaders.

Contact the Wayne County ISU Extension and Outreach today to learn more about joining 4-H! 🤩🍀

We are MOOving right through our 2026 Summer Day Camps! 🐄🌾

We wrapped up our Barnyard Buddies Day Camp on Thursday, and what a fun-filled day it was! Campers explored farming and the many careers found within agriculture, learned about chick hatching, and welcomed our special guest hen, Sally Joe (a huge thank you to the O’Brien family for sharing her with us!).

Youth also got hands-on experience with show pig practice, discovered the evolution of tractors, and learned all about dairy products. From tractor puppets, farm seek and finds in a jar or filling up on ice cream - we loved seeing their curiosity and excitement as they explored the world of agriculture!

🍎👩‍🍳 Our Day Camp Kiddos Were Cooking Up Success! 👨‍🍳🍦

On Tuesday, June 2, our 15 K–3rd grade summer day campers spent the day learning valuable kitchen skills while having lots of fun!

Campers practiced knife safety and learned how to use different measuring tools while creating their own fresh fruit salads. For lunch, each youth made their very own sloppy joes from start to finish—browning meat, making sauce, and chopping bell peppers. Along the way, they learned about cross-contamination prevention and how to stay safe around a hot stove.

We also explored the important role farmers play in food production and wrapped up the day by making homemade ice cream—a camp favorite! 🍨

Thank you to all the youth who attended and made the day such a success. Each participant went home with supplies and resources to continue practicing their cooking skills and create delicious meals at home!

We had 11 youth participate in our Babysitting Basics workshop last Friday!

Participants gained hands-on experience learning about age-appropriate games and activities, emergency protocols, snack preparation, and the basics of managing their own babysitting business.

A special thank you to Wayne County Hospital for providing instruction on infant and child CPR and choking response, and to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for sharing important safety information, including when to use emergency services versus non-emergency phone lines.

Yesterday, May 26, our K-3rd grade summer camp attendees celebrated MISTAKES during our “Oops! Amazing Inventions” Day Camp! 💡✨

Throughout the day, youth learned about inventions that were created completely by accident, explored the difference between discoveries and inventions, participated in career exploration activities, created their own playdough, and wrapped up the day by bringing their inventions to life using recycled materials!

We still have spots available for our America250 Camp and our 4th-7th grade camps! Be sure to get registered before they fill up!

We are so proud of our Warren Willpower and Union Hotshot 4-H members for their dedication to community service while planting seven trees around the fairgrounds. Our youth also helped clean up large limbs from recent storms and spread mulch around trees across the grounds to help keep our fairgrounds looking their best.

A very special thank you to the May family and the fairboard for providing supper for all of our youth and adult volunteers. Your support helped make this celebration and service project even more meaningful! ❤️

Nearly 40 youth from our Union Hotshots and Warren Willpower 4-H Clubs came together to plant seven trees at the Wayne County Fair, Corydon, Iowa in celebration of America250! 🇺🇸🌳

In partnership with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa 4-H Foundation, Iowa 4-H, Frazier Nursery, MFA Agri Services - Corydon and Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers, our 4-H members rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty making a lasting impact on our community.

More photos to come — but for now, enjoy this timelapse of planting just one of the seven trees 🤍

We are so excited to have Emma Bradley in our office this summer!

Hello everyone! My name is Emma Bradley, and I am so excited to be the Wayne County Extension Office intern this year! I am from Winterset, Iowa. Throughout high school I was involved in 4-H, FFA, and my local county fair. Growing up, I raised and showed all sorts of livestock for 12 years but primarily focused on swine for 8 of those years! I am currently a Sophomore at Northwest Missouri State University pursuing a degree in Animal Science with a minor in Agricultural Business. I’m so excited about this opportunity and to be part of a community that is so welcoming! I can’t wait to meet new people and learn about the ins and outs of the Wayne County Fair and our local programing!

Emma will be at all of our programming including Day Camps, summer school and library days. Please give her a warm welcome!
