This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, our students honored the Kalapuya people, whose care for the land our school calls home extends back since time immemorial.

Through stories, poetry, native plant exploration, and hands-on work, students learned about the Honorable Harvest and put stewardship into practice by tending our campus together.

At CWS, we believe that caring for the earth begins with knowing it, learning its stories, and understanding our responsibility to it. Today was an opportunity to honor the people who have cared for this land for generations and to help our students carry that spirit of stewardship forward with understanding and partnership.

"As part of their Local Geography studies, the 4th grade took an expedition to Mary's Peak. No views of the valley on this day, but in the magical, misty cloud at the top, they discovered many mushrooms, explored fallen logs, considered where creeks come from and where they go, and enjoyed being together in a beautiful spot. Students and teachers alike have gratitude for opportunities to learn outside the classroom."

Fifth grade is studying the structures, life cycles, and role of fungi in the natural world.

Students examined different mushroom species, created detailed spore prints, and studied mushroom anatomy, identifying parts such as the cap, gills, stem, ring, volva, spores, and mycelium.

Through chalkboard diagrams, they traced the mushroom life cycle and explored how fungi fit into the larger classification of living things and contribute to healthy ecosystems.

Yesterday our third graders visited RainShine Family Farm, where they learned about the farm and the work that goes into growing and harvesting. After hearing about the farm, they got to roll up their sleeves and help harvest potatoes straight from the earth!

From Garden to Family Table!

Our first graders spent a beautiful day harvesting potatoes and gathering fresh vegetables and herbs to create special soup bags to take home to their families.

Geometry in action!

Our Grade 6 students explored the beauty and precision of geometry by creating intricate geometric drawings using compasses and straightedges. Through careful construction, measurement, and repetition, students transformed simple lines and circles into beautiful works of art.
