OMSI Super Science Saturday at Ashbrook School is presented by Parents for Education Plus (PE+). This is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit that has been around for about 40 years in Corvallis and is in danger of dissolution.
PE+ has decided to hold at least one more OMSI event next year in March 2027. The past few years, we’ve seen a decline in volunteers willing to help put on the event. We currently have three people on our team: a president, vice president, and a treasurer. We are required to have four positions filled.
We are looking for someone to be secretary this year. This person must be able to attend meetings, take notes at board meetings, add them to the Google Drive and email them to the group for approval. PE+ is offering free admission to our OMSI event for the child(ren) of the person who volunteers and completes this position this school year.
The next meeting is on November 12 at 1 p.m. at New Morning Bakery. We anticipate one meeting per month in November, January, February, March and April. During the November meeting, we will be picking out specific OMSI workshops for the next Super Science Saturday. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting. We are a pretty informal group.
If you are unable to attend meetings, but can help out with small tasks in the future, please let us know. This could include designing or printing flyers, putting together name tags, helping with check in or set up in the morning, printing instructions for parent volunteers, fundraising, grant writing, etc.
Last year’s event was a great success. We sold out with 73 students attending from 15 different schools in the area, including homeschool, private schools and public schools, from kindergarten through 6th grade.
Please help us keep this event going for our students in the near future. Any questions? Let us know.
