Pierreās Work at Living Studios
October 2025
As of late, Living Studios affiliated artist Pierre Pyke has taken diligently to his practice. Showing up each day to work with his lunch in tow, Pierre simulates an office-like routine. Sitting down at his table, going through his folders, writing notes and checklists, and reaching for a specialized lineup of supplies: a stapler, tape, clips, pens, pencils, and scissors.
Reminiscent of Rauschenbergās cardboard sculptures, Pierre has used the material in his own work as a jumping off point for collage. In his most recent pieces, he uses scraps from other artistsā work or makes his own, cuts them out, and tapes them onto the cardboard. Oftentimes he reflects on his work by taking the time to make lists and notes in his own personal language. Sometimes he includes words in his work, but he rarely includes representational images.
Pierreās three dimensional work often appears in a similar fashion, formed of tinfoil, shaped into a cone structure, and adhered to a cardboard or paper surface. This is something he refers to as his past process.
His unwavering system catches the eye of other artists who seem entranced by his motivation. Yet his work, which can frequently be collaborative, is recognizable as distinctly his own.
By the end of his day, he has finished his work, including a couple of collages, notes, and even some filing of his materials into folders. Pierreās practice is routine, even down to the specific tape he uses. As he waits for the arrival of the bus, it is evident that a hard dayās work has been achieved.
