📣🦨 Call for Abstracts: 2027 ORTWS Conference!

Join us February 9-11 in Seaside, Oregon for Full STEAM Ahead and help showcase the science, management, and conservation work happening across our region. We're accepting abstracts for oral presentations, poster presentations, and special session proposals covering wildlife, habitat management, conservation, ecology, and related fields.

Students, tribes, researchers, land managers, and practitioners are all encouraged to participate. Whether you're sharing completed research, management updates, or innovative ideas, we'd love to hear from you.

Student Scholarship Announcement - Due by November 1, 2026

We are pleased to announce that the Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society is now accepting applications for our student scholarships! The ORTWS Scholarships are intended to foster undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated potential for making a future professional contribution in wildlife sciences or management through research, management, education, or outreach. Scholarships offered this year include:

● Outstanding Undergraduate Student Scholarship

● Kathy Johnson Outreach Scholarship

● Outstanding New Graduate Student Scholarship

● Advanced Graduate Student Scholarship

ORTWS 2027 scholarship cycle is now open! 🎓🐻

The Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society is now accepting scholarship applications from students pursuing wildlife careers in Oregon. We offer four scholarships designed to support students at various stages of their educational journey.

New this year, both full and part-time students are eligible to apply. In addition, the ORTWS Board hopes scholarship recipients will be able to attend our 2027 Annual Conference (February 9-11, 2027) and is offering a complimentary conference registration waiver as an added benefit to awardees.

Students who attend the conference may also be eligible for our separate volunteer student lodging program, which provides lodging support in exchange for assisting with conference activities during the event. Visit our conference page for more information: ortws.org/events/annual-conference

Have an idea for a special session? We're looking for additional invited sessions focused on a single topic or theme!

If you're interested in organizing a session, send your proposed session name, session type, and expected number of speakers to Abstract Committee Chair, Cheng Cheng Goy at [email protected] by November 2nd, 2026.

Don't have enough speakers to fill a full session? We can help fill open slots with submitted abstracts OR accommodate half-session requests.

All invited speakers will submit individual abstracts through the regular submission process, but will indicate their special session.

We're excited to announce another opportunity for wildlife and nature-inspired artists! The Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society will host its second annual Artist's Corner at the 2027 Annual Conference in Seaside, Oregon.

Artists are invited to display and sell their work while connecting with the wildlife community. Applications are due January 1st, 2027.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS! The Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society is looking for artwork to represent our 2027 annual conference and our theme: "Full STEAM Ahead!"

We're looking for an original design that celebrates connections in our field while featuring Oregon's incredible native wildlife and/or flora. The winning artwork will be printed as a limited edition conference sticker, with proceeds supporting ORTWS scholarships and grants.

The Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society members are invited to participate in a Bioblitz outside of Sisters, Oregon (Surveying locations at Indian Ford Campground (Indian Ford Road, Sisters, OR 97759) and Whychus Creek Trailhead (44.2351, -121.56199)). This event will include opportunities to learn surveying techniques for bats, amphibians, birds and mammals! If you are looking to get more experience with these methods or connect with your fellow ORTWS members, this event is for you!

Please bring your own dinner, breakfast, snacks, water, and camping gear, and be prepared to walk up to four miles on Saturday. We will have additional water and snacks available during the bioblitz. Registration is $10 to help cover campsite costs. As we will be surveying for wildlife, we ask that you please not bring your dog to this event to not impact any wildlife behavior.
