Contemplating the Birds: A Guided Meditation

Tuesday, November 3rd· The Arts Center, 700 SW Madison Ave, 9:00 am (45 minutes)

Join us at TAC 700 for a unique experience in our current exhibition. 66 Birds/3 Degrees | Return to Life. Oregon State University Contemplative Studies Initiative’s Marigold Center, will lead guests on a Guided Meditation journey. We begin with the birds: their songs, their small bodies in flight, and the joy that arises when we simply listen. This 45-minute guided meditation opens into the wider more-than-human world, where we rest in the beauty of all the living and elemental world. No meditation experience is needed.

About the facilitator: Joseph Bailey is retired from Linn Bentom Community College and facilitates classes at the Marigold Center, including Forest Bathing: A Practice of Kinship. He brings more than fifty years of meditation and contemplative practice, along with a lifetime of engagement with the more-than-human world and with arts exploration and expression. His work includes Being Wholly Human, a body of work he created to assist people in weaving their personal journey with their relationship with others and the systems in which they live.

TWO SPACES. TWO EXHIBITIONS. ONE EVENING OF ART!

There’s a lot happening at The Arts Center during Corvallis Arts Walk tonight, and for the first time, we’re inviting you to experience art in both TAC 700 and TAC 760!

Start at TAC 700 for Photographic Memory, an exhibition by Corvallis photographer John Ritchie, with an artist reception and talk from 5:30–7:30 PM.

Then head next door to TAC 760 for the SpecTACular Silent Art Auction Live Preview. Tonight is your first chance to see this year’s auction collection in person, and it also marks the very first exhibition in our new space!

Browse the artwork, find your favorites, and start planning your bids. The auction collection is available to preview online now, with bidding opening October 17.

OCTOBER ARTSHOP SPOTLIGHT | ANN LAHR

For Corvallis potter Ann Lahr, working with clay is an adventure, and sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s leading: Ann or the clay.

After years of working in two-dimensional art, experimentation with mixed media led Ann to ceramics and a world of texture and form.

Children’s drawings have inspired much of her recent work, transformed into ceramic pieces that preserve the imagination and character of the original drawings while becoming works of art all their own. Her practice also includes sacred art created with connection and personal reflection in mind.

And the little ceramic cats? Those are just for fun. 🐈

Working from her studio in the forest on the edge of Corvallis, Ann primarily uses wood and soda firing, embracing the unpredictability of each process as part of the adventure.
