Especially at the beginning, college can be overwhelming. At Oregon State University-Cascades, Samiera Mason is there to help. Now a senior psychology major, Samiera works for The Bridge student inclusion center. “I really enjoy and love this work,” she told guests at an April 9 breakfast for Central Oregon members of OSU Loyal: university employees and retirees who are also donors. “When students connect with others, everything changes. They find study buddies, make friendships, learn about resources and opportunities, and gain confidence. College becomes more enjoyable, and that matters a lot.”
Something else makes a big impact on student success, she adds: financial support. “I’m truly grateful for the scholarships I’ve received,” she said. “The generosity of donors makes it possible for students to have incredible experiences. We’re excited to use what we’ve learned to strengthen our communities. We intend to make you proud!”
Special thanks to Interim Chancellor and Dean Becky Johnson and OSU Loyal Committee member Amy Davila-Klautzsch, director of the TRIO Student Support Services program, for leading our gathering.
