Not In Our Town - Corvallis

Not In Our Town - Corvallis Peacefully responding to hate to create a safe and inclusive Corvallis Our first move to action was a general call for ideas.

Formed in response to the hate crime committed against the Salman Al-Farisi Islamic Center in Corvallis, Oregon, we are a group of community members dedicated to a Corvallis that is safe and inclusive for all of our neighbors. In less than 24 hours, over 60 people attended. We came away with the formation of the Cafe Commons, a conversation group dedicated to cultural understanding, a Peace Tree campaign, and a series of responses through the media.

Corvallis/Albany friends: Today, Sunday, March 17th, at 1:30 pm at New Morning Bakery people are gathering together to brainstorm ways to respond to the murders in New Zealand and to the increasing presence and threat posed by white supremacists/nationalists in the USA. Look for a small sign saying "Corvallis Together." (A group got together on Saturday and began this process.) .

Corvallis ROCKS! Always so proud to call this community home...(even if I leave, it's still home). Today's gathering of the tribes included many people who came from around the state and even from out of state--it was a time when it didn't matter if one was pro-gun control or anti-gun control, Democrat or Republican or Tea Party or..., Christian or Jewish or Muslim or Hindu or....--what mattered is that no matter what our beliefs or backgrounds or ethnicity, we stood together to let the WBC know that their hatred is not welcome in Corvallis.

Around 3,000 people turned out today for Philomath Army Ranger Cody Patterson's memorial service -- in part to remember a fallen local soldier and to support friends and family, and yet also in par...

Looking forward to seeing all who turn out today at LaSells Stewart Center. My friend told me yesterday that when the WBC showed up in Mississippi, the law enforcement showed up at the motel where they were staying and blocked their cars with the patrol cars and trucks, and detained them, trying to determine whether they had grounds to arrest them. They were released after the funeral was over. Wish the Corvallis Police would do something like that.
