Today is the 2 week marker since her emergency permanent tracheostomy surgery. We are still experiencing ups and downs in her recovery and she’s still under the care of ICU OSU for her post op stoma infection (another 10 days to heal) They say 3 months is the “hump” we have to reach and then we’ll be in the so called “clear”. We still have to remain cautious of occlusion of her stoma and aspiration even after 3 months and xrays very 6 months to check her lungs. Your continued prayers and support are welcomed. Overall she is so very happy to be home and her quality of life doesn’t appear to be dampened (eventhough we go back and forth to the hospital almost daily and she is not excited to go “bye bye” anymore bc of it). We accept that she will never be able to be left alone (planning and searching for suggestions for future Hazel babysitting needs for planned times we will need to be away and emergencies ), she’s learning to sleep on her piggy and memory foam bolster I made for her to sleep easier on her chest/breathe. Our lives are changed forever and that’s ok because she’s here and becoming her old self again - with a few major changes of course. Hazel and our family are so extremely thankful for all your support and love. We couldn’t have done it without you. The journey ahead will be a learning one for her and for us. If there is anyone out there that ever has to go through this ...please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I’ll pass along the knowledge and experience I have based on our situation - just know ever situation is different but I will tell you - it’s not always a “time to say good bye and let go” situation. She is so very strong. So that being said ...I wanted to share some updated photos of her today in the sun and sleeping in her bedroom (yes she has a room - she refuses to sleep in her kennel so she has the bed now with her own blankie, etc)🙂. Again, thank you for all the love and support in her recovery. 😘💜🐶🐾

I/we are raising money for our Hazel Rose that required emergency life saving surgery last week and she is still in recovery and will be for an additional week in ICU due to a secondary infection. What appeared to be a normal veterinarian check up at Oregon State University Veterinarian Teaching Hospital Internal Medicine on November 15, 2019 turned into a unimaginable horrific nightmare for her and for us and this is when emergency surgery was performed to save her life.
Here is her story: you may or may not know this but on July 19, 2016 at only 15 months old, we rescued her from a horrible beginning in life. We took her from a family that had severely neglected her and we have reversed the majority of damage incurred by them by bringing her up to normal weight instead of the malnourished 22lbs for a medium sized young stout dog and gave her the love and care that every responsible pet owner should. It was a process but we earned her trust and she blossomed from there when she learned what love truly is and felt like in her little life. We were blessed the day we found her and from that day forward we have given her the best life that she deserved and provided to her a very loving, caring and wonderful life. We have taken all the preventative measures to ensure that her health and care are solid – or so we thought. Hazel Rose is not only a pet but she’s also a service dog/companion to a family member. She is a SSigDog (sensory signal /social signal dog) and medical service.

In summation - She’s not just our pet ...she is much much more than that. Hazel Rose is a valuable part of our family and especially to the member that is close to her for her abilities to assist with sensory and medical issues.

Donations will go towards her current hospitalization and recovery but will also remain an open Charity at OSU Veterinarian Teaching Hospital for other fur parents to utilize and access should the emergency arise for their fur babies’ to survive this horrid disease (BOAS)

Any amount donated is a blessing and deeply appreciated and please feel free to call the hospital with any donation questions. If you would like to make direct donations you can send them to:
