***Transportation has been found! This request had me sweating because there were no offers to transport in over 3 hours, but our wonderful rescue family came through. Ilana, I truly appreciate your willingness to make the ride. Thank you to everyone who shared the post because it does make a difference.***

This little guy was dropped off at a vet practice in Queens. He has a very bloated abdomen and is being treated for constipation. The lady who brought the kitten in said that she would return, but she hasn't kept her word. So FURRR 911 has been asked to accept him into our rescue.

This wasn't on my bingo card last night!

I received the call just before 10:30 pm. A gentleman said that he had a box of really young kittens and that an emergency vet hospital had given him my number. He proceeded to say that he was on Liberty Street in Newburgh when a man carrying a cardboard box approached and asked if he wanted kittens. The guy with the kittens said that he had to get rid of them. When the Good Samaritan looked into the box and saw how tiny they were, he immediately agreed to take the kittens. His exact words to me were, "I couldn't say no. They need help." So he was sitting in his vehicle, with the heat on, making phone calls to try to find someone to accept the babies.

An hour later, a vehicle pulled up. I was quite surprised to see that this caring and compassionate gentleman was either in his late teens or very early twenties. Even with the heat on in the car, the babies were cool to touch, and one kitten was quite lethargic. Quickly looking them over, I realized that the babies were born that day as they still had soft (not dried) umbilical cords and swollen nails. While no one knows the full story, these babies were most likely stolen from their mom just after birth. 😡😡😡

Before rushing the kittens into the house and an incubator, I took a few moments to genuinely thank this young gentleman for caring enough to take the babies, searching for placement, and making a late night trip down to Westchester County to ensure that they would get the help they needed. He was definitely a hero in my eyes, and I made sure to let him know that he made a difference and saved lives tonight. I wish everyone could be so caring and compassionate. The world would definitely be a better place. 😊❤️

Bottle Baby Momma actually got out of the house today. Of course, thirteen baby kittens were also treated to a road trip to enjoy uninterrupted bottle feedings. 😹

Morgan Stanley graciously hosted FURRR 911 at its Purchase campus today. This corporation places a heavy emphasis on giving back to the community by encouraging employees to support local charities through volunteering and donating. We are lucky that one of our volunteers (who, along with his family, also fosters kittens and has adopted from our organization) works for such an amazing company.

We were invited to showcase some of our adoptable kitties. We even received an adoption application for a pair of black kitten siblings. 😁 There were craft tables where employees could make cat toys for the foster kitties or create bead bracelets. Workers also enthusiastically shopped for handmade jewelry and cat toys to support our organization. However, the highlight of the day was being asked to deliver a presentation on what to do if you find a newborn kitten. It was heartwarming to hear that 75 people had signed up to attend our talk, and many workers from the Manhattan office even made their way up to Westchester just to attend this event.

I want to extend a gracious thank you to the project coordinators at Morgan Stanley for helping to make this day possible, the staff members who volunteered to man our tents, and to all those who attended our presentation, visited with our kitties, or donated to support FURRR 911. We felt so welcomed and encouraged by everyone we met today. And of course, a very special thank you goes out to Eugene (for proposing our organization to his employer) and his wife Sasha (who took the day off from work to volunteer at this event).

When your "surprise" new arrivals from Queens make you feel unnecessary. 😹

Update: Transportation has been found. 😊

We were alerted to a situation in Queens yesterday regarding two litters of kittens. Unfortunately, one kitten had already perished. To make matters worse, the kittens are in a side alley of a building that gets locked by workers and is unaccessible at times. So although we agreed to help yesterday, the gate had been locked for the night.

The finder reports that she is able to gain access today, but refuses to remove the kittens without a guarantee that they will be picked up and transported to the rescue. Thank you, Sheila Dunn Randles, for making the trip yo pick up these kittens. ❤️

Surely, I didn't need any more kittens, but this baby has stolen my heart.

A friendly stray cat started visiting a home in Riverdale recently. Although the family didn't have experience with cats, they had a soft spot for animals and brought her inside. In the early morning hours last Tuesday, this stray kitty gave birth to four babies. Unsure what to monitor for or how to proceed, they reached out to FURRR 911. While most people say that fostering nursing moms and their babies is easy because the mom does all the work, the situation still needs to be monitored closely and regularly for any changes in appetite, weight, symptoms of illness, behavior, and alertness. This means monitoring both the mom AND her kittens because things can quickly change.

All was going well with this family until 36 hours ago. Under our advice, the finder had been diligently monitoring the weights of the kittens. When she noticed that the runt of the litter had lost weight and wasn't staying latched onto mom's ni**le for very long, she contacted us. We recommended giving the runt time alone with mom every hour or two so that the bigger kittens wouldn't jostle or compete with the little one. A late Sunday afternoon reweight was promising as this simple intervention led to a small weight gain.

Unfortunately, this morning's weight revealed a further loss. With the kitten only 7 days old, any weight loss is dangerous. Although we wanted to keep the family together, we know that two consecutive days of weight loss is a huge red flag. So the difficult decision was made to intervene, and the kitten was brought to me. Since the baby just arrived, he is warming up in an incubator prior to any attempts to feed.

These little kittens are adorable, but they are also extremely fragile. Every negative change needs to be noted and addressed immediately as newborns can decline very quickly. While this baby looks clean and healthy on the surface, there could be an internal congenital defect or issue that has not shown itself yet. Here at FURRR 911, we believe in giving newborn kittens every chance to live and be loved as long as they are not in distress and still have some fight left in them. While we don't know what is causing this weight loss, we will start with bottle feeding and strictly monitor his weight. If needed, we will switch to tube feeding. This is what we do day in and day out. This is FURRR 911.

***Transportation has been found. Thank you to Joe who is on his way to pick up this kitten for us.***

We were just asked to take in this kitten from the Bronx. The finder keeps trying to feed the baby, but has not warmed the kitten first. She reached out to her neighbor who immediately got in contact with us to ask for help.

Please always remember that newborn kittens need HEAT before they EAT!
