Killing the Old Self ✝️
Today’s message challenged us to take a serious look at our identity and our self-image.
📖 Galatians 2:20 — “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…”
When we follow Christ, Christ becomes our identity. The old version of us no longer gets to define who we are.
1️⃣ Stay dead to the old self
It’s no longer about “me”—it’s Christ living in me. We have to continually choose to stay dead to the old nature.
2️⃣ Stop identifying with the old nature
Romans 6:6 reminds us that our old self was crucified with Christ. Being born again doesn’t erase our memories, but it means we no longer have to live according to our old habits. We kick the old habits and develop new disciplines.
In Christ, we have the permission and the power to be different—to be made new. We are free from the control of our old nature.
From sinner to saint. From old to new.
3️⃣ Discover who the new you is in Christ
Colossians 3:3 says that our life is “hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:10 tells us to “put on the new man.”
If you want to discover who you really are, turn your eyes toward Jesus. Stop trying to “find yourself” and start discovering who He is in your life—and the power of His resurrection working in you.
🙌 Christ first. Christ in me. Christ as my identity.
You are who you are by the grace of God.
