I would like to share with you information about one of the finest adult faith formation events that I know of, and it is planned and led right here in Ohio by the Christian Church in Ohio (Disciples of Christ) and the Heartland Conference of the United Church of Christ. Adult Conference is an annual event that offers some of the finest biblical study, workshops on a host of important and spiritually engaging topics by gifted leaders, and inspiring worship and preaching, all wrapped in fun, food, and friendship. And it is open to ANYONE of any age, faith tradition, and whether you are a lay person or clergy.

This year I am especially stoked by the choice of our presenter, who I have wanted us to invite for years. The Rev. Dr. Valerie Bridgeman is Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs as well as the Associate Professor of Homiletics and Hebrew Bible at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio. She will be both the Bible Lecturer and Vesper Speaker each night. Her most recent work on the book of Job will guide our theme "Faithfully Fighting With God."

Adult Conference 2026

Greetings from the 2026 Adult Conference Planning Team. We are excited about how plans are coming together for our 2026 Adult Conference this upcoming June 22nd-25th at Northwest Christian Church in Upper Arlington in the greater Columbus area. This adult faith formation event will once again bring together Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ leaders and participants for learning, worship, networking, and fun in community. This event is for lay people as well as for clergy, spiritual seekers and explorers as well as seasoned church people.

We are ecstatic to have as our Bible Study Lecturer and Vesper Speaker the Rev. Dr. Valerie Bridgeman, Dean & Vice President of Academic Affairs and Associate Professor, Homiletics & Hebrew Bible at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio. Our theme will be Faithfully Fighting With God and will be based on the book of Job.

In addition to Rev. Dr. Bridgeman there will be a marvelous assortment of workshops and trainings on a variety of topics, from practical church leadership training to spiritual growth and development. A special opportunity will be a full Clergy Healthy Boundaries Course on Wednesday, June 24 led by the Rev. Dr. Elena Larssen, Transitional Association General Minister of the Living Water Association. This course will count for standing purposes for both denominations.

Recent changes to our format include:
• A Separate Retired Clergy Luncheon on Monday, June 22 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. This luncheon for retired UCC and DOC clergy (plus one guest) will need a separate RSVP but is free of charge.
• One Day Shorter – We will conclude on Thursday late morning rather than on Friday as we have in years past.
• All-Week Registration OR Daily Registration. If you choose the daily registration, it includes pro-rated program costs such as honorariums, use of space, and workshop support, as well as all the meals provided on that day (Monday: Dinner only; Tuesday and Wednesday: Lunch and Dinner; Thursday program only, no meal; Breakfasts each day are on your own.)
• More Hotel Options. While we have obtained a special rate at the nearby Fairfield Inn, we are offering information on a wide variety of nearby hotels at various price points.

Time to grow! It’s ExtraOrdinary Time!

Ordinary time is here!

"Ordinary Time" refers to two times of year in the lift of the church, in-between the great festivals of the church. The first is from Epiphany until Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The second is from Pentecost until the season of Advent.

These seasons are variable in length, because the date of Easter is not dependent on the solar calendar. So we often count them with ... ordinals! (Which is where the name comes from). You will often see these Sundays noted in the form of "The Second Sunday after Epiphany" or "The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost."

Although called ordinary, during this season the church often tells some of the most important stories about the life of Jesus. It is a chance to reflect on how God shows up in our lives, not just on the mountaintops, but in the every day.
