Mary Beach, Director of the Cortland program, which serves all of Cortland county, and Evelyn Sammons, President of the Cortland Hospice Foundation, accepted the check, expressing their appreciation for the Association’s civic mindedness. Beach, noting that insurance coverage for hospice care is frequently inadequate, said “… we would not be able to provide the high quality service clients and their families deserve without contributions like these.” Sammons stated “The role played by Funeral Directors in supporting grieving families is a very important one,” adding “we’re fortunate to live in an area with such a strong sense of community.”

The Finger Lakes Funeral Director’s Association includes over 60 area funeral homes. The group supports members in a variety of ways, including hosting an annual two-day conference that draws professionals from all over New York State and parts of Pennsylvania. This year the Association voted to donate a portion of conference proceeds to three area Hospice organizations. In making the presentations, Sullivan praised the work of the selected programs, telling recipients “We’re grateful for the important services you provide and we’ve learned a family’s experience with Hospice often helps us support them in their grieving process. We just wanted to give something back to show our support for the important work you do.”
