We’ve been busy! We’ve IDed and learned about 50 tree and shrub species, started wood carving, sampled Sea Buckthorn juice, and toured/volunteered at Cortland ReUse. We’ve also hosted the Graphic Communications class. Fall is a magical time!

Today we practiced our public speaking skills by presenting to sixth graders at the annual Cortland County Conservation Field Days. Topics included composting and energy. Special thanks to Cortland County Soil and Water for putting on another great event!

Today we wrapped up our first overnight trip and the first time the two classes had a chance to work together. Special thanks to Cornell Outdoor Education for creating a fabulous setting and great programming for our team building and Forestry Unit goals.

From the classroom to work! Dom and Thomas are both recent graduates of the OCM BOCES New Vision Environmental Science Careers program which uses Lime Hollow as a living classroom throughout the year. This summer, they are exploring careers in land stewardship and outdoor education as employees of the Lime Hollow Nature Center.

We finished strong! Morning trip to visit Ray Kneer’s studio and rock art, hike to Calico Pond in Gee Brook state forest and then our graduation ceremony! Best of luck ‘26!

It was our first year mounting staghorns. Great way to decorate their dorms this fall!

Last trip of the year ended with a bang and red kneecaps. 15 mile paddle down the Tioughnioga. Low water made for a long day in the sun but it was a trip - and year - full of memories!
