An overwhelming amount of people have reached out recently, and asked about the 5th annual
Cortland Community Matters Fair.
I had an idea during covid. If we could go to Walmart, bars and restaurants, why couldnt we do the dairy day parade? Why cancel the corn ducky derby ? These activities were already outside and socially distanced...it didn't make sense to me!
What started as a "Covid safe Field day", a day meant to bring people together with socially distanced games in a time when it was literally illegal to do so.....Grew into a Celebration of Cortland.
In the 12 years that I've lived in this city, I can't tell you how many times I've heard the phrase " Cortland Sucks"
I disagree. I believe that Cortland DOESN'T suck ; you just have to dig a little for the good parts.
For the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Annual Cortland Community Matters Fairs, I set out to showcase the very best parts of this cities community.
Where can you go for resources for kids? What sort of entertainment do we have to offer? Where's the best restaurants ? Who's got the best slice of pizza ? Who are your elected officials and what do they do for you ? Who can you trust to fix your car ? Where can you check out some cool local music and art?
I did the digging so the community didn't have to.
Nearly 5 years later, with life back to ....mostly normal, we're seeing all of our beloved events come back full swing , and THEN some!
The maple fest is just as sweet as ever! The corn ducky derby was an adrenaline rush! And have you SEEN how many new events have come from Capco and the Child Development Center ?! Kids Day is AWESOME.
So, this year, I'm taking a hiatus from community outreach. There will not be a Cortland Community Matters Fair this year. Instead, I will use the page to inform followers about the great Events and resources available in our great Crown City. 👑
