What are these MLC guys looking at? They're looking at something that is not here, yet.

We're excited to share that coming soon to this empty space next to our Fozzie's Farm classroom and high tunnel, will be a wash/pack/cool shed that will provide a space for producers to safely and efficiently prepare food grown on the farm for market.

This project will break ground this fall thanks to the generous start-up support from the LOR Foundation, getting us closer to our goal of providing below-market value leasing and land access opportunities for young and beginning farmers.

Thanks to Estes Valley Voice for capturing the conversation MLC and our partners Trees, Water & People got to have with Estes Valley Land Trust and the Estes Park community last week. We are thrilled to see such interest, inspiration, and action come out of our Traditional Harvest Project that will positively impact conservation projects and programs across the state from us.

For decades, conservation organizations have measured success in acres protected, habitat restored, and development prevented. We spent a beautiful day on the San Juan River with some of our neighbors from our local Latino community.

The trip was led by Ancient Wayves River and Hiking Adventures, an Indigenous-led rafting company based on the Navajo Nation. With most of the trip conducted in Spanish, the day offered a welcoming way for participants to experience river recreation, learn more about this incredible landscape, build confidence and familiarity with an activity that may be new to them, and just enjoy a day outdoors.

Creating more opportunities for Spanish-speaking families to connect with the outdoors is an important part of our community-centered work and we’re grateful for the support from The Colorado Health Foundation and Ancient Wayves for making such a memorable day on the river possible!

MLC has been conducting site visits on potential restoration sites determined as crucial resource areas by the preliminary Wildfire Readiness Action Plan (WRAP) results.

This WRAP for the Dolores River Basin was created by the watershed (DWC). We are excited to use these results to participate in landscape-scale restoration that protects the resources important to our community.

The high tunnel at Fozzie’s Farm is putting on quite a show with marigolds, cosmos, and nasturtiums bursting into bloom. But these flowers aren’t here just for their good looks—they’re an important part of our approach to intercropping and regenerative agriculture. 🌸

Intercropping means growing different crops together to create a more diverse and resilient growing system. Flowering plants provide food and habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects, including predators that can help keep pest populations in check. Different plants also interact with soil, water, and nutrients in different ways, contributing to a healthier farm ecosystem.

And you know what they say, "with August flowers, come August showers."

Conducting some annual monitoring of conserved lands in Dolores County today via bike. It's dry out there, but always a good day on the protected and resilient landscapes of Southwest CO.

Thanks to business partner Osprey Packs for outfitting our Stewardship Coordinator with the Hikelite Hiking Backpack, the perfect pack for an annual task of monitoring 50,000+ conserved acres. ❤️
