It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Lieutenant Todd Morris. Lt. Morris unexpectedly passed away from natural causes last evening. His loss is deeply personal, not just for me, but for everyone who had the privilege to work beside him over the past four decades.
Lt. Morris began his career as a Detention Officer with the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office in 1986. In 1990, he joined the Corsicana Police Department, where he served this city with unwavering dedication for 35 years. He wasn’t just a Lieutenant, he was a friend, a brother, and part of our heart. It’s hard to imagine this department without him.
For the past nine years, like clockwork, Chief McGaha and I started each day with a 6:15 a.m. incident briefing from "the Lt," followed by 20 minutes of chatting about whatever crisis was leading the morning news. Somehow, from the comfort of Corsicana, we managed to solve all the world’s problems.
We all carry countless memories of Todd. The late night phone calls, the long talks, the humor only cops can understand, and the moments of rushing toward the danger that our instincts say that we should go the other way. He was the kind of man who made this department feel like home, the kind of leader who showed up without being asked.
Todd brought laughter when the world around us seemed anything but funny. He had a way of making the hardest days feel lighter. He wore his badge with pride and had a passion for being out in the field, standing beside those he led. Quiet when needed, fierce when necessary, and steady through every challenge.
We’ll miss him at every briefing, at every scene, and in every quiet moment when we realize there’s an empty chair.
Rest easy, 1157. We’ll take it from here.
