Today, the Corry Hi-Ed team said goodbye to our Executive Director, Dr. Matthew Platz.

Friends, colleagues, and staff, both new and old, gathered in the Bracken Room to celebrate Matt’s time at Hi-Ed with cake, Chipotle, and, most importantly, plenty of memories and stories.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything Matt has brought to Corry Hi-Ed and the community. We wish him nothing but the best as he begins this exciting new chapter!

Presented by the Tamarack Wildlife Center - Wings of Wonder: Pennsylvania Birds of Prey.

Get up close and personal with some of Pennsylvania’s magnificent birds of prey including a live falcon, hawk, and owl. Learn about these birds’ characteristic features, discover their adaptations and natural history, and explore their critical role in our environment. Find out what you can do to help birds of prey and the world we share.

The Inspection Regulations and Procedures course with instructor Eric McCray will prepare you to take the test required for certification as an official Vehicle Safety Inspection Mechanic in PA. The Tools Course is designed to prepare students for the tactile, written and base of the licensing process. Students will be tested in 3 areas (base, category written, and category tactile) and must receive at least score 80% to pass. Students will have two attempts at each portion of the test to pass. If a student fails any of the testing categories twice, they will be required to retake (and pay) the PA State Inspection and Tools course. No refunds will be issued for the first attempt at the class. Additionally, to receive your motorcycle inspection license, you must have a valid motorcycle license prior to class.

This course will be held in the automotive technology center of the Corry Area Career & Technology Center at the Corry Area Middle-High School (534 E. Pleasant St., Corry). Participants must be 18, have a valid driver’s license and a mechanical background.

The required five sessions will be held in 2026 on October 19 (Mon.), 20 (Tues.), and 22 (Thurs.) from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and October 26 (Mon.) and 27 (Tues.) from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Certification categories are cars/light trucks, motorcycles, and heavy trucks.

The cost is $260 for one inspection category, $300 for two inspection categories, and $340 for all three categories. Retests are $40 each. Register online at www.corryhied.org or call 814-664-9405 ext. 1004.

Manuals will be provided and will be available for pick-up prior to the start of the course for a required reading assignment due before the first night of class. The manuals are available for pick-up at the Corry Hi-Ed, 221 N. Center Street, Corry, PA Mon-Thurs. 8a-4:30p, and Fridays 8a-3p. If are unable to pick-up your booklet during those times, please call the Corry Hi-Ed to make alternative arrangements.

Presented by Safe Journey - The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children and Youth.

Participants will learn how children are exposed to abuse, the developmental impacts across age groups, and the compounding effects of displacement and homelessness.

We will address how children interpret violence, how abusive parents may manipulate or use them, and the long-term lessons they may internalize about relationships, conflict, and self-worth.

This session will highlight proactive violence prevention strategies
(we can offer Act 48 credits if needed as well).

On Thursday, November 5th, John Seitz returns to Corry for another book reading and signing. John, the author of last year’s successful memoir, Corry Stories, will be reading selections from his new book: Everyday People, Ordinary Places.

The collection of more than fifty true stories illuminates just how special everyday people are and how interesting ordinary places can be. From a little boy marching in a parade with his fireman father, to the hidden history of a common lunchbox; ever present are the positive themes of kindness and love.

Everyone has stories that document just how interestingly they are living their lives. Come to the early evening reading and, as you encounter John’s stories, you’ll be encouraged to recall and relate some of your own. Stories go better with some sweets. A selection of cookies and brownies will appear.

The event is a collaboration between Corry Hi-Ed and Corry Public Library. It will be held at the Corry Public Library (117 W. Washington, Corry, PA 16407) on Thursday, November 5th from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of books will be cheerfully donated to the library. This is a free event, but registration is required by visiting website www.corryhied.org or by calling the Hi-Ed at (814) 664-9405.

Presented by Penn State Extension. The ServSafe Food Safety program is for individuals who are serving as managers or are in a supervisory role requiring certification. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate. This training meets the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements for the Food Employee Certification Act.

This is a 2-day program that will be held Tuesday, September 8, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 15, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. A lunch break will be provided. Participants will sit for their certification examination on Day 2, between 11 a.m. and noon.

Server/Seller Training is for all members of the alcohol service staff which includes anyone who serves or sells alcoholic products and/or check IDs, including owners and managers who perform these duties. This training covers the laws that servers/sellers must follow in Pennsylvania to assure that your clientele is responsible while enjoying your establishment. Upon completion of the training, attendees are not certified as individuals, only the licensee can become certified. However, participants will receive a completion card.

Participants are required to register on the PLCB+ website for the training, and will need to create an account if they don't have one already.

The workshop will be held at the Corry Higher Education Council on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 10a-2p. The workshop is free to attend, but registration is required by visiting the PLCB+ website - https://plcbplus.pa.gov/pub/Login.aspx
