Village Friends, Inc. is part of a nationwide “aging in place” movement based on a proven service model developed by Beacon Hill Village in Boston, MA approximately 12 years ago. It has inspired the creation of what is called the “village movement.” Currently, there are approximately 200 similar organizations throughout the country, with over 100 more in development. Most recently, the movement has received national publicity: it has been featured on NBC Nightly News, in Forbes Magazine, and is endorsed by AARP. is the first in Northwest Pennsylvania. The nearest village is in State College, PA with ten additional villages operating in the Harrisburg-Philadelphia area. The primary function of a village is to help older adults remain independent in their own homes as they age. Corry has retirement and assisted living facilities that provide services to older residents willing and financially able to move into them. However, research has shown that 90 percent of older adults prefer to remain in their own homes and neighborhoods. For Corry area residents wishing to stay in their own homes, Village Friends, Inc.’s mission is to bring a full menu of services directly to them

Home is more than a place—it’s comfort, memories, and independence.

During Older Americans Month, Village Friends is proud to support older adults in the Corry area who choose to age in place—remaining in the homes and communities they love.
With a little help—whether it’s a ride, a small repair, or a friendly visit—independence becomes possible, and peace of mind grows for both individuals and their families.

This May, we celebrate the strength and determination of older adults who continue to live life on their own terms. Village Friends is honored to walk alongside them every step of the way.

“Connection” is more than a word—it’s a lifeline.

During Older Americans Month, Village Friends is proud to create moments that bring people together. A simple ride, a friendly visit, or a shared outing can make all the difference in someone’s day. For many older adults, these connections mean less isolation and more joy.

This May, take a moment to reach out to someone, check in, or lend a hand. Small acts create strong communities. Together, we are building a place where older adults feel seen, valued, and supported.

May is Older Americans Month, and at Village Friends, it’s a powerful reminder of why our work matters.

Because of our volunteers and supporters:
• Rides help older adults get to medical appointments and social activities
• Home maintenance and errands make daily living safer and easier
• Social events bring connection, laughter, and friendship

Behind every number is a neighbor choosing to remain independent—with dignity and support.
This month, we celebrate older adults not just for who they are, but for the lives they continue to live fully.

Want to be part of that impact? Join us as a member or volunteer today. Call Heidi at 814-964-2767 for more information.

May is Older Americans Month—a time to celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and contributions of older adults in our community.

At Village Friends, we see every day how older adults continue to shape our neighborhoods through their stories, experiences, and connections. Whether it’s a ride to an appointment, help around the home, or simply sharing conversation at a social outing—these moments matter.

This month, we honor the individuals who have built our community and continue to inspire it. Join us in celebrating Older Americans Month by supporting Village Friends—because staying active, connected, and independent should always be possible.

WOW!!! What a fabulous tour of Stan's Garden Center last week!

We had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with owner Josh Skarzenski and see firsthand how plants are grown—from cuttings and seeds all the way to the beautiful blooms we bring home.

Our group was amazed by the level of care and precision that goes into every step of the process. Highlights included:
A seeding table that fills a 10x20 tray in just 7 seconds
Advanced computer systems that manage watering and airflow throughout the greenhouses
The custom potting soil blends using wood fiber
Improvements in water treatment that directly benefit plant health

It was truly eye-opening to see the technology and dedication behind the scenes!

If you get a chance, be sure to visit our local Stan’s in Corry. Their knowledgeable staff is always happy to answer questions, offer suggestions, and help you find exactly what you need. And if they don’t have it on hand—just ask! They receive daily deliveries and will gladly get it for you.

Big impact often comes from the little things.

In 2025, our volunteers:
• Completed 45 home maintenance projects
• Ran 21 errands
• Coordinated 28 thrift store donation pickups
• Provided tech help and in-home support

And behind the scenes, volunteers contributed over 2,700 hours supporting the Village Thrift Store—helping sustaining our program.

Whether it’s changing a light bulb, picking up a donation, or helping someone navigate technology, every act of service matters.

Thank you volunteers for showing up in so many ways.

• 298 in-town rides
• 155 out-of-town trips for appointments

To our volunteer drivers: thank you for your time, your care, and the conversations along the way. You help reduce isolation and bring connection to life. We appreciate ALL our volunteer drivers this Volunteer Appreciation Month and every month!

A special congratulations to Jody Miller, our Village Friends Volunteer of the Year!
