Last Saturday the Correctionville Museum and Correctionville Library hosted, along with Iowa DNR and Lakeside Lab, speakers Pamela Grundy and Susan Shackelford who wrote Shattering the Glass:the Remarkable History of Women’s Basketball. They were excited to be in Correctionville, the winners of the first ever high school girls’ basketball tournament in the nation held at Drake University in 1920. The girls raised their own funds from local donors to take an overnight train to Des Moines, win 5 games in 2 days, while sleeping at night on wrestling mats in the locker room. This and more Iowa stories (they interviewed Caitlin Clark) are in the book which you will find at the Correctionville library and the museum.

Join us tonight at the Correctionville Community Center at 6:30.

The IC RR Freight Depot was in the water when the Little Sioux River flooded the last week in June. Fortunately we had not begun restoration of the office area. Other than a fine layer of mud and water soaked boards and studs there was little damage. Volunteers including the Ridgeview FFA helped clean out scrap lumber, old paint cans and other debris. They also cleaned out the dried mud. We are very grateful for their help. Thank you!
There was approximately 2 feet of water inside the building. You can see the water lines on the building and the interior sides of the doors.

This weekend-Saturday morning 10:00-12:00 and Monday morning following the 10:00 Memorial Day Parade- the Correctionville Museum will open for the 2024 season. Then through Labor Day weekend, the museum will be open every Saturday 10:00 am-12:00 noon and every Sunday afternoon 2:00-4:00 pm.
We are very thankful to all our volunteers who make this possible.
The Correctionville Museum board met May 24th to discuss future plans for the museum. Kate Koskovich offered to speak at the museum whenever needed about the Oneota Indian artifact collection which was all collected in the Correctionville area.
The board also discussed exploring the option of selling the historical bank building currently housing the museum collection if a handicapped accessible replacement could be found.
Hope to see everyone at the museum this summer.
