During his visit to Corpus Christi, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick expressed growing frustration with the Corpus Christi City Council's continued uncertainty surrounding the Inner Harbor Desalination Project and making clear that the State of Texas is prepared to put hundred of millions of dollars behind water infrastructure in Corpus Christi.

At Voices for Coastal Bend Energy, our position remains straightforward: Corpus Christi 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁-𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲, and we need to find a way to make that water investment 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 for the people who live and work here.

That is why we will continue working with our business, community, state & federal partners to identify every available funding opportunity that puts us on a path towards affordable & reliable water for local residents and small businesses.

𝗔 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗱.

Following Corpus Christi City Council’s decision to reject the Inner Harbor Desalination Project, Governor Greg Abbott’s Office delivered a clear message about what is at stake for our community.

In a statement following the vote, the Governor’s Office said, “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱” and criticized the Council for their failure “𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀.” The statement also pointed to the State of Texas’ work to expedite water funding and permits, support pipeline upgrades, and fully permit the Inner Harbor Project.

At Voices for Coastal Bend Energy, we believe this is bigger than one project or one vote. It is about whether Corpus Christi will have the reliable water supply it needs to protect families, support small businesses, sustain our hospitals & schools, and continue attracting the jobs and investment that are transforming our region.

We respect the importance of due diligence, but leadership also means making difficult decisions when the future of our community is on the line.

The Governor’s Office has made its position clear. The State has taken action. Businesses and community leaders have stepped forward. Now, Corpus Christi must find a path forward.

𝗔 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.

Corpus Christi Desal Partners will present important details to the City Council tomorrow regarding a potential update to the Inner Harbor project, including new approaches to environmental monitoring and potential alternatives for moving desalination concentrate out to the Gulf.

The presentation outlines a proposed partnership with Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries (CBBE) to provide continuous monitoring of salinity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and water-quality trends. The information would be shared with City operations staff, regulatory agencies, and the public, while real-time monitoring could help inform plant operations when conditions warrant.

The presentation also introduces three potential Gulf discharge pipeline routes, ranging from approximately 19.7 to 31.3 miles, that could remove desalination discharge from the Inner Harbor and potentially accommodate future regional brine-management needs.

These are important new components of the project, and we encourage everyone in the Coastal Bend to take the opportunity to learn more directly from the Corpus Christi Desal Partners team.

It was a great day at the Associated Builders and Contractors Texas Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley Candidate Forum, bringing together candidates and members of the construction community for an important conversation about the future of our region.

We appreciated the opportunity to hear from Texas House District 34 candidates Denise Villalobos and Stephanie Guerrero Sáenz, as well as U.S. House District 34 candidates Vicente Gonzalez and Eric Flores, as they discussed their priorities for economic growth and supporting the construction industry.

As a member of ABC, Voices for Coastal Bend Energy is proud to stand alongside the many businesses, contractors, and skilled tradespeople who are helping build the Coastal Bend.

Our region is experiencing tremendous economic growth, creating new opportunities for local workers and small businesses. As that growth continues, the demand for skilled professionals and a strong construction workforce will only increase.

It was a great day at the Coastal Bend Industry Association luncheon yesterday, bringing together leaders who understand the critical role our region plays in the future of energy and industry.

We had the pleasure of hearing from Todd Staples of the Texas Oil & Gas Association and Hector Rivero of the Texas Chemistry Council about the state of Texas energy and the incredible opportunities ahead for the Coastal Bend.

Our region has established itself as a true energy hub. Not only powering communities across the United States, but helping supply the products and resources that fuel economies around the world. The Coastal Bend is on the front line of this global effort, and our skilled workforce, businesses, and industries are helping drive that success every day.

We are proud to be part of a community that continues to lead, innovate, and create opportunities through responsible energy growth. The future is bright for the Coastal Bend, and events like this remind us of what we can accomplish when industry and community leaders work together.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱.

Yesterday, the Corpus Christi City Council voted to reject Voices for Coastal Bend Energy’s offer to privately fund the preparation of a federal grant application for drought-resilient water infrastructure.

Our coalition stepped forward with one simple goal: remove a financial barrier so the City could compete for potentially transformative federal funding—at no cost to taxpayers.

We were not asking the City to authorize construction of the Inner Harbor Desal project tonight. We were asking the Council to give staff the opportunity to pursue every available public funding source for the only fully permitted, drought-resilient water supply project currently available to Corpus Christi. Securing grant funding would have strengthened the City’s options and reduced the potential financial burden on local taxpayers if the project ultimately moves forward.

Instead, the Council chose to walk away from a no-risk opportunity to compete for outside funding and strengthen Corpus Christi’s long-term water future.

Water security isn’t a political issue. It’s an economic issue. It’s a public safety issue. Every major employer, every neighborhood, and every family depends on a reliable, drought-resilient water supply.

VCBE remains committed to advocating for practical, long-term solutions that protect the Coastal Bend’s future. Yesterday’s vote is disappointing, but our work is far from over.
