We offer a hand up, not a hand out.

We unite the community with people in need to provide the life-changing opportunity to purchase and own simple, quality, affordable homes. Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Prospective homeowners go through an extensive interview and selection process. The selection committee considers present housing conditions and income. Home visits and credit checks are conducted. When a family is selected, they are required to contribute 300 – 500 hours of “sweat equity”. These hours are earned in construction, ReStore, fundraising, office work, and other areas of need.

Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi finances these homes, providing 25-30 year interest-free mortgages. Our funding partners are individuals, churches, businesses, foundations, community organizations, and financial institutions. Research shows that our home ownership program leads to benefits beyond housing, including improved mental health, a decreased reliance on social services, and improved academic achievement of children.
