It's Meow Monday and this post is LOOOOOONG overdue! My husband and I moved from Texas to North Carolina and have been preoccupied with being in a new town and all of the new adjustments. We also unfortunately had a death in the family as well as had to put our family pet to rest 😒 BUT, I am finally posting a huge update about all of our sponsored kittens and our project!

From the end of April when we started this project to the beginning of July when we left Corpus Christi, we were able to raise over $1,200 in monetary donations and over $300 in supplies! The money was used to purchase supplies and spay/neuter all of our strays. If you had sponsored a cat, that sponsor money was put toward their spay/neuter and any extra money we had went toward any cats that were not sponsored. We are proud to say that we trapped and fixed 40 cats, and found homes for 24 of them! The ones who were too feral to be homed were released back to where they were trapped (how TNR usually works) and are still being taken care of by the residents while being given their space. We still estimated having about 4 more strays to TNR in the complex but they were not seen as frequently and/or were our most difficult to trap. My partner, Haley, is fortunately still in Texas and is continuing to work with the last three/four who need to be fixed!

Toward the end of our project, we became more involved with not just our apartment strays but with the stray population in several other areas of Corpus Christi. The stray population is so bad in Corpus and many people were reaching out to us for help as they would find kittens or strays and hear about our page. Though I am no longer in Corpus, Haley (the animal whisperer and true inspiration to start this entire project) is still working every single day to help the stray population in Corpus and continues to TNR as well as rescue and find homes for many kittens and cats (even dogs on occasion!)

She is incredible at what she does and she will actually officially take over this page after this post to continue her rescue efforts! Her rescue is called Peace Love & Paws and she is always looking for support so please continue to show your support for her!

We can never say thank you enough to you all for supporting us through this big project, we are amazed at the amount of people who came together from all around the world (donations from Japan!) and helped us help these cats. Every stray that was fixed has prevented thousands of future strays ending up on the streets of Corpus! THANK YOU ALL!!

Check out the attached photos of some of our kittens who are being spoiled rotten at their furrever homes thanks to you all and remember to show your support to Haley and her rescue, Peace Love & Paws! 🐾❀️😺

Happy Sugartree Strays Sunday everyone! It has been a LOOONG time since we have posted so we apologize! We had a couple weeks of break which gave us time to organize and plan this last part of our project. We intend on wrapping up this project in the next few weeks, AND the majority of our kittens are old enough for us to find homes for them so we have been busy doing meet and greets, and finding families who we feel will be trustworthy, reliable, and loving homes for our kittens! It is ALWAYS very important when rehoming/ adopting out animals that the animal is healthy, the animal is spayed/neutered (even if they PROMISE they'll get them fixed!), that the animal is vetted, AND that you have a rehoming/adoption fee! It might be tempting to give an animal away for free because you need to find it a home, but sadly there are bad people out there always looking for free animals :( It also helps to ask for vet references and check up on potential adopters to make sure they really take care of their pets!

All of this has definitely taken a lot of our time, but we are happy to say that we currently only have SIX kittens left to be adopted! (we still have several kittens who are currently too young, such as Molly's kittens) If you know anyone in Corpus Christi or even near Jacksonville, North Carolina, who would be interested and the purrfect home for one of these babies, please let us know!

We also did some TNR again last week and we think we only have 4-5 more ferals left! We are so lucky and very excited to share that we had a couple wonderful local people reach out and offer to help us finish this project! They are fellow cat lovers and animal advocates, and we could not be more grateful for them helping us out so we ask that you PLEASE check out their page Guardian Gals Animal Rescue, Inc. and also www.peaceofmindpethome.org (Peace of Mind Pet and Home Services on FB) to show support for these great people!

We were able to TNR these two boys, Kuro and Tigger, and one girl, Jewels, and look forward to trapping our next and hopefully last few ferals so stay tuned!

We are still receiving donations and supplies from so many of you and we are constantly in awe of the support we have from you all, so THANK YOU as always for all of your help and support, we couldn't do it without you all!

Happy Feline Friday everyone!

They are in need of sponsors!!! There is one girl (all black) you can sponsor for $40 or one of the three adorable boys for $30, and if you sponsor them, you get to name them! Look how cute these kittens are! 😍😍 Please let us know if you would like to sponsor and name one of these sweet babes!

Happy Thursday!! We apologize for having not posted sooner, but as always we have been incredibly busy. So here is our update for you all!

First off, we would like to give a big thank you to Krystal Gillette for sponsoring and naming this adorable little boy, everyone meet Sterling!! He currently hangs out with Nala and her four babies and they all LOVE each other like true siblings.

We have been shuffling around our kittens between fosters as we are taking them in to get dewormed and get flea medication as well as an official weight so we can see how close they are to getting fixed! (must weight at least 2 pounds, we're wanting more to be safe). This past week we were able to take Nala and her five kittens which means we were also able to get Nala tested for Feline Leukemia as well as get her vaccinated. Her test came back negative (YAY!), she received the FVRCP vaccine as well as the Feline Leukemia vaccine. All the babies were dewormed and we picked up flea medication for everyone, though we will wait a couple more weeks to give the babies flea medication as it is recommended to wait until they are at least 8 weeks old.

We used Madison's Clinic here in Corpus Christi because they have such affordable prices and we don't have much extra money to work with, but even with an affordable place like Madison's it was still a $250 visit, which means we have about $75 left and can cover 3 more feral TNR appointments... (any money from sponsors is in a separate account to be used for that cat only!)

We are in desperate need of donations!! We are so beyond grateful to all of you who have given us so much including supplies, monetary donations, and much more, we are just hoping that if even a few people donate just $5 then we will be able to have enough to TNR the last 6-8 ferals and hopefully have some leftover to afford more flea medication for all of our fosters and anything else we might need!
Thank you so incredibly much for all of your support, here in the next few weeks we will hopefully catch our last few ferals and begin getting kittens fixed and adopted, so stay tuned!!

Happy Feline Friday everyone! It is update time!

We had four appointments this week but ended up only filling two. The great news is, one of the Strays we caught this week was one of our MUST CATCHES that we thought we would never get! We have named her Grace and she was one of the last females (we believe) here at Sugartree. She had her appointment yesterday and has fully recovered and is doing well! She is a feral kitty which means she has not allowed us to work with her at all, so for now she will be released back to the Sugartree community where she is a favorite of several tenants and taken care of by many more!

Our second appointment was actually one of our friendlies, and one that you all already know from the very beginning of our project! Our pretty girl Catherine (the main picture of our page!) was surprisingly friendly when we found her and we were able to pick her up and bring her inside. We also were pretty confident that she was pregnant since she had such a big belly for a stray cat! Well fast forward two months and this sweet girl STILL hadn't delivered any kittens (gestational period for cats is typically 58-67 days).... we as well as her foster realized that she actually was not pregnant! And not only that, but when we took her to her appointment, we were informed that she is not only not pregnant but she is also ALREADY FIXED! This could explain why she seemed to have a bigger belly than most strays we find as well as why she is friendly. We are unsure of who got her fixed, but she received the rabies vaccine to be sure and got her ear tipped so now others will not pick her up to fix her again!

It is important to keep your cats indoors for their safety and highest quality of life, but if they are going to be outside-even monitored- they should have a collar or some sort of way to let others know that they have been vetted! This prevents crazy cat ladies like us from picking them up for TNR, as well as informs neighbors and Animal Control that they are cared for.

We only have a few strays left here at Sugartree and we are hoping to be successful in their TNR within the next few weeks! We will keep you all posted as we continue with our project, and as always thank you so much to everyone who has donated time, money, supplies, well wishes, and much more to help our cause!

Happy Saturday! We wanted to give a quick update about this past week, as we have been very busy trying to trap our last few strays!

We had 8 appointments this week, and were sadly only able to fill 3. But hey, 3 is better than zero! We caught 1 stray here at Sugartree, Tifa, who has been sponsored by Katrina Royal! She is such a beautiful little girl and her vetting costs were covered just in time for this crazy kitten season! Our other Sugartree Strays have been difficult to catch, and might take more time with getting them to trust our traps before actually trapping them.

We have been staying out for countless hours, setting traps and resetting traps, releasing strays who have already been caught as well as opossums. Since we had so many appointments this week, we would try everything we had to get a Sugartree Stray, and if by the last minute we didn't have anyone then we decided to head over to a gas station next door, called Snappys, and TNR there. The strays next door are also feral but were surprisingly easier to catch with traps! We were able to catch this beautiful gray girl, Houdini, and this pretty boy, Meeko. And good thing we did, too. Meeko received a penicillin injection to help fight infection while he was having his surgery since they found some puncture marks on him while he was out. This very well could help him to continue to live! Thank you P.A.A.C.-People Assisting Animal Control for being so attentive and helping us help these strays! All 3 cats have fully recovered and have been released back to their colonies, as they were all extremely feral and unfortunately unable to work with at this time.

While we would LOVE to catch our last few cats here at Sugartree before starting another colony project, we did not want to waste vetting appointments knowing that there are so many strays out there who need it. Fixing one cat prevents THOUSANDS of cats from being born into the feral world in the future, and we will not stop with Sugartree until we have vetted the entire colony here. But Corpus Christi is our community, and the cats next door need us too!

And for the record, any Snappys Strays that are vetted comes directly out of our pocket, as we are saving and using every last penny that our incredible supporters have donated to help cover any costs of our Sugartree Strays as well as purchase supplies for our mama cats and kittens!

Make sure to enter the free giveaway for your chance to win 5 pairs of adorable cat socks!! Check out the previous post for details.

Happy TNR Tuesday, Supporters!

We had two appointments this morning and we caught two boys over the weekend who made it to their appointments and are in recovery! The first boy, Kellen, has been sponsored by Fara Klein, and what a cute name he was given! Thank you Fara for sponsoring him! Our second boy, given the name Bob for appointment purposes, did great during surgery and is a handsome boy as well!

The interesting thing about these boys is we believe we have about 8 more Sugartree Strays to catch, but then we caught these two who we have never seen before! We're not sure where they came from or if they'll stay, but since we trapped them we still vetted them and they both will be released once they have recovered since they are both very feral.
We are sharing 3 pictures of our 4 traps from last night... two different opossums AND Athena, who has already been vetted and released! We weren't kidding when we said these last few will be our most difficult, but we aren't stopping until our project is complete!

We would like to give you all some great news, we had a neighbor today out looking for her female cat, "Will" who had gotten out and couldn't be found. They spent hours looking for her and I let them know what we were doing and that we could keep an eye out for their baby. Tonight while setting traps, we found Will and were able to reunite her to her owners! We are still on the lookout for our other neighbor's cat "Fred" and hope to find him as well.

And as always, we want to give the biggest THANK YOU to everyone who continues to send donations, supplies, well wishes, and all other sorts of support!! And we want to give a special shout out to our fosters who have opened their homes and have dedicated their time to taking care of the mama cats & babies and pregnant moms that we picked up here and brought indoors to find their furrever homes! We could NOT do it without you ALL!!
