Troop 356 Yorktown Christian Academy

Troop 356 Yorktown Christian Academy BSA Troop 356 is an extracurricular activity and ministry of Yorktown Christian Academy. A year-round program designed for girls in grades 6 though 12.

Chartered by Yorktown Christian Academy in February 2019 as an extracurricular activity and ministry to girls in the community. Troop 356 operates as a part of the Outdoor Adventure Program at Yorktown Christian Academy, along with BSA Troop 226 for boys and Cub Scout Pack 226 for families. Troop 356 is a girl-led troop. One of the major differences between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts is leadership

development. In order to teach leadership, you have to let the girls lead. Empowering girls to be leaders is the core of Scouting. Scouts learn by doing, and what they do is lead their patrols and their troop. Adults must keep in mind that we are here for the Scouts. There is a chain of command within the youth leadership and also within the adult leadership. The girls have only as much authority as allowed by the adults

🦂 This weekend, Yorktown Christian Academy's Troop 356-G went on a nighttime scorpion hunt at Choke Canyon State Park—and it was a glowing success!

Did you know scorpions light up under black light? This unique glow is part of their biology—and seeing it in action during our hunt was both eerie and exciting for the Troop.

If you're between the ages of 11 and 17 and looking for adventure, friendship, and hands-on learning, Troop 356-G would love to welcome you. Come see what we're about!

2,176 miles, two merit-badge triumphs (White-Water Rafting + Nature), one impromptu snowball war, and exactly zero dull moments—Troop 356-G is HOME safe and sound! 🌟

From conquering the churning Animas on a raft, to cruising the jaw-dropping bends of the San Juan Skyway and popping into every quirky mountain town we could find, these Scouts leveled-up in courage, curiosity, and carb consumption.
Highlights:
• Foraging dandelion greens and wild mountain chives for trail-side snacks (yep, they’re edible—and surprisingly tasty).
• Soaring over Telluride on the gondola and crushing a few fear-of-heights jitters along the way.
• Steam-powered views on the Durango & Silverton train all the way to Cascade Canyon.
• A spontaneous snowball fight at 10,000′ that left our fellow Texas Scouts jealous we found snow…in June! ❄️
• Sampling the warm, mineral-rich waters of a natural hot spring—an unexpected taste of the Earth itself.
• A pit stop in Roswell, NM—because what’s a road trip without a little extraterrestrial mystery?🛸👽

This trip wasn’t just about the places we visited—it was about the challenges we tackled, the fears we overcame, and the lifetime of memories and unforgettable moments we shared. Troop 356-G grew in ways that can’t be measured in miles.

**Day 4 Adventures in Colorado!**

Yesterday, Troop 356 took on the rapids of the Animas River with an epic whitewater rafting trip—thrills, splashes, and teamwork all around! Not only did we conquer the river, but we also put in the work toward our Whitewater Rafting Merit Badge, building skills and confidence on the water.
Special thank you to Mild to Wild and Lauren for the experience and the wealth of knowledge. Mild to Wild Rafting & Jeep Trail Tours

Day 4 Adventures in Colorado!

Yesterday, Troop 356 took on the rapids of the Animas River with an epic whitewater rafting trip—thrills, splashes, and teamwork all around! Not only did we conquer the river, but we also put in the work toward our Whitewater Rafting Merit Badge. This adventure helped to build skills including communication and confidence on the water. After an action-packed day, we fired up the grill for a well-earned BBQ, then cooled off in the creek, soaking in the perfect Colorado scenery. A special thank you to Mild to Wild Rafting & Jeep Trail Tours and Lauren for the amazing experience and the wealth of knowledge.

Day 3 for Troop 356G's summer camping trip was spent exploring southwest Colorado and gathering knowledge for their "Nature" merit badge. This included a short hike to play in mountain snow, discovering a roadside hot spring, getting up close to a raging waterfall and identity new plant and animal species. We saw many types of birds, marmites, chipmunks, deer, elk and even a beaver!

Troop 356G had an amazing time on the Silverton & Durango Narrow Cage Railroad. Spectacular views from our open-air car.

A little late on our Day 3 in Colorado post. It was packed with adventure and fun. We traveled the San Juan Highway starting in Durango with stops to Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, Cortez, back to Durango.

We visited a hot spring, ate dandelion and onions off the land, had a snowball fight in the SanJuan Mountains, identified some animal tracks, and bones, visited many beautiful and powerful waterfalls, rode the gondola in Telluride and saw some furry critters along the way.
