The Optimist Club of Downtown Corpus Christi was honored today, to recognize students from 13 area high schools, on being exemplary students who are making a difference in our community. Each of the students had already achieved great accolades and have even higher dreams, goals, and aspirations to conquer! We were so blessed to be able to honor each of these students, their families, and school faculty with our Youth Appreciation Luncheon today.

It was our honor today, to recognize the students from 13 area high schools, at The Optimist Club of Downtown Corpus Christi's Youth Appreciation Luncheon. Mayor Joe McComb began the luncheon with his welcome speech and Proclamation for the city of Corpus Christi.

The Optimist club was honored to host the Collegiate High School Luncheon for another year. We've hosted this event since the first graduating class of Collegiate High School in 2010.Every year two students are awarded a $1000 Sand Dollar Scholarship at this event. There is 93 amazing students in this class and 52 of these students are graduating with an associates degree. We want to thank everyone involved in making this happen and the media for covering our event. Special thanks to our guest speaker Mark Skurka! Congratulations to this years scholarship winners Anna Trevino and Jacob Benavides!

Susanna Villagran-Majors of CCISD's Homeless & Military Support Services will be our guest presenter this Thursday, May 12. She'll share with us some of the challenges homeless & foster care students face transitioning from one home to the next, the trials with being in school, and what some of their needs are. Please join us at U&I Restaurant at 5:30 p.m.

Woo hoo! Today is the Club's 1st ever Lemonade Day workshop! Helping kids learn to be entrepreneurs and what it takes to run a business -- to run a lemonade stand. Working with them today to make a business plan. We'll be at West Oso Elementary School (1526 Cliff Maus Drive) this Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
