🌱 Restorative Practices in Action! 🌱
What a great 3 days of learning, reflection, and connection with ESC, Region 18!
The Counseling & Mental Health Department had the opportunity to provide Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 Restorative Practices Training to staff from Ector County ISD, Pecos Barstow Toyah ISD, & Van Horn ISD. We are grateful for the educators who continue to invest in creating school communities where relationships matter, accountability is meaningful, and restoration is possible. A dynamic day of learning and creating with Gregory-Portland ISD paraprofessionals!

ESC-2 Special Education Specialist Janiel Brennan facilitated this full-day workshop, guiding participants in exploring how visual supports—including schedules, calendar systems, and consistent routines—can create meaningful structure and strengthen support for students with disabilities.

The learning came to life through hands-on rotations, where paraprofessionals put their learning into practice by creating visual supports they can immediately use with students.

We appreciate Gregory-Portland ISD’s continued partnership with ESC-2 Special Education and their commitment to equipping educators with practical tools that make a difference for students every day.

Partnership in Action for Students with Disabilities!

ESC-2 Special Education was proud to partner with Gregory-Portland ISD as special education teachers strengthened their practice in developing high-quality IEPs, with a focused deep dive into meaningful PLAAFP statements—the foundation for identifying student needs, developing purposeful goals, and ensuring FAPE.

A special thank you to Dr. Brenda Lozano, Veronica Brotherton, Susan Gallegos, and Janiel Brennan for their continued commitment to building educator capacity and serving students with disabilities across Region 2.

Learning Together. Supporting Every Student.

ESC-2 Special Education was proud to partner with Driscoll ISD for an engaging day of professional learning focused on supporting students and those who serve them every day.

Dr. Andrina Hamil led De-escalation Training for PreK–8 teachers and paraprofessionals, providing practical, proactive strategies to recognize signs of escalation, support student regulation, and respond to challenging situations while maintaining safe, calm, and supportive learning environments.

The collaboration, conversation, and hands-on engagement throughout the day reflected a shared commitment: when we build the capacity of educators, we strengthen opportunities for every student to succeed.

This past week, the Assessment and Accountability Team hosted a hands-on workshop focused on Domain 3 of the A–F Accountability System. Participants analyzed their own data, explored performance and progress measures, and developed realistic goals aligned to their results. It was a great day of learning, collaboration, and turning data into action!

The Education Service Center, Region 2 Board of Directors is thrilled to announce Dr. Eddie Hesseltine as our next Executive Director!

A lifelong Coastal Bend resident with 29 years in public education—most recently serving as Superintendent of Orange Grove ISD—Dr. Hesseltine brings a deep commitment to South Texas students, teachers, and communities. He succeeds Dr. Esperanza Zendejas (2020–2026) in leading ESC-2’s mission to support our regional school districts.
