The venerable PMDG DC-6 arrived on the PlayStation 5 Marketplace.
The DC-6 comes from an era when aircraft were operated with switches, levers, gauges, four large radial engines, and rather more crew members than are fashionable today. Our simulation brings all of that to life with highly detailed aircraft and cockpit models, custom systems and a complete sound environment designed specifically for the aircraft.
The cockpit has been recreated down to the smallest details, including worn paint, scratches, frequently touched surfaces, and all the little imperfections you would expect from an aircraft that was designed to work for a living rather than look pretty in a showroom.
Despite all that complexity, you do not need to arrive with a flight engineer's licence tucked into your pocket. The PMDG DC-6 includes an Automated Flight Engineer who can handle checklists, configure aircraft systems, perform system checks and manage engine power while you concentrate on flying. With a few mouse clicks, your virtual crew can take care of much of the workload.
As you become more familiar with the aircraft, you can gradually take those jobs back yourself. Eventually you can operate virtually every switch, k**b, lever and circuit breaker just as the real crew did. For those who want the full experience, the DC-6 can simulate detailed engine management including fuel and mixture control, oil pressure, cylinder head temperatures, superchargers, carburetor icing and many other parameters. And yes, if you treat those big radial engines badly, they may eventually object. Loudly. Whether you simply want to enjoy flying one of aviation's great classics or want to manage four radial engines like it is 1955 again, the PMDG DC-6 lets you decide how deep you want to go.
