Leadership Corpus Christi Class 54 | January & February Sessions Recap

The Core 54 has spent the last two months diving deep into how leadership at the State & Federal level and the City & County level directly impacts our community.

In the early hours of the morning, our class had the incredible opportunity to hear from leaders who are advocating every single day for the betterment of our community.

A special thank you to Representative Todd Hunter for sharing powerful insight on the importance of family, collaboration, and working across differences for the good of the Coastal Bend. His message was clear: real leadership requires unity.

We were also honored to hear from Seantor Adam Hinojosa, who spoke to the class during our state session and shared perspective from the State Senate on the responsibility and impact of state leadership.

And what a full-circle moment it was to hear from Representative Denise Villalobos, a proud Leadership Corpus Christi Class 51 alumna. She shared her whirlwind journey from program participant to serving at the state level — and how a passion for servant leadership that began at a young age is now playing out in real time. It was inspiring and affirming for Class 54 to witness what stepping up can truly lead to.

Back home during our City & County session, we were equally grateful to hear from leaders serving right here in our community. Thank you Nueces County Commissioner Brent Chesney, Sheriff J.C. Hooper, and Chief Mike Markle for sharing your insights, your accessibility, and your commitment to leading on behalf of our community every single day. Thank you to all our incredible speakers who took the time out of their busy schedules to share their powerful messages.

A consistent theme across both sessions? Collaboration over competition. Partnership over politics. Service over self.

What stood out most to our class was access. Many walked away realizing just how approachable our elected officials truly are — and how easily meaningful change can begin when we simply step forward and engage.

Of course, there was bonding (Austin always delivers), but more importantly, there was growth, perspective, and empowerment.

Class 54 walked away knowing this:

We have incredible leaders on our side.
We have access to decision-makers.
And we have a responsibility to lead boldly.

A very special thank you to the subcommittee members who worked tirelessly to bring both of these sessions to life. Your intentional planning and behind-the-scenes coordination do not go unnoticed. To everyone working quietly to make these experiences seamless — we appreciate you and deeply value your partnership.

And to our family at the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, thank you to your incredible staff for your continued support of our program. Neither of these impactful sessions could have been accomplished without you. Your commitment to developing servant leaders in our community makes all the difference.

We’re confident the Core 54 feel empowered to advocate, collaborate, and create meaningful change in the Coastal Bend — just as the leaders before them have done.

The future of our community is bright.
