Summer Voyage Registration is Now Open for RGV and Houston. Join us this July for exciting one-day adventures for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth ages 7–17 in the Houston and RGV areas. ***ASL I Registration is Now Open for Fall 2026***
Interested in learning basic American Sign Language (ASL)? Join our ASL I class taught by ASL Instructor Sean Hill and begin your journey into the Deaf community and visual communication. Class starts on August 17, 2026 to October 12, 2026 every Mondays from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center 5151 McArdle Rd. This beginner-friendly class is perfect for anyone wanting to learn basic signs, fingerspelling, and everyday conversations in ASL.

Registration is now open for the June activities in the Corpus Christi and San Antonio areas. Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your child's spot early. Registration deadline for CC is June 11th and San Antonio is June 18th.

Houston and RGV area Summer Voyage opportunities will be announced soon for July, so stay tuned for more information.

***Sign Camp for Kids Update***

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our Sign Camp for Kids scheduled for June 8–12, Monday–Friday, from 9am to 12pm has been canceled.

Families who were planning to attend the June camp are welcome to register for our July Sign Camp, which will be held July 6th–10th, Monday–Friday, from 9am to 12pm at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center, 5151 McArdle Rd.

In observance of Memorial Day, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center will be closed on Monday, May 25th. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 26th during regular office hours from 9:00am to 5:00pm. We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Tonight from 6pm-8pm, come learn more during our Cochlear Implant Presentation and explore helpful information, technology, and resources.

Then tomorrow, Friday, May 15th from 10am – 2pm, join us for our Open House filled with community vendors, resources, accessibility information, and DHHC services.

Thank you to the Coastal Bend Emergency Management Association, Coastal Bend Council of Governments, and Nueces County for supporting accessibility at the Coastal Bend Hurricane Conference.

We appreciate the provision of 4 interpreters each day during the two-day conference and the opportunity to include Deaf panelists and community partners in important emergency preparedness discussions. 🤟

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the Coastal Bend Emergency Management Association, Coastal Bend Council of Governments, and the Nueces County Office of Emergency Management for their support during the Coastal Bend Hurricane Conference. 🎉

Thank you for providing 4 ASL interpreters for both days and for allowing us to bring important Deaf stakeholders, community partners, and advocates to participate as our Deaf Panelists for our presentation on “Emergency Response: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Communication Access.” 🙌🏽

We also want to express our appreciation to Mr. Jason Shaw from Texas Deaf Chamber of Commerce and Ms. San Juana Rodriguez from Texas Association of the Deaf as Disaster Relief Coordinator, and Mr. Geofrey Ceballos, Chairperson-Elect of the DHHC’s Advisory Committee for being with us during this important part of community preparedness. 🥰

In Honor of National Interpreter Appreciation Day for First Wednesday on Interpreter Appreciation Day, we especially want to recognize our ASL interpreters for being our amazing bridge to access, without you, there would be no color in our world. 🤟🏽

Yesterday, three of the other interpreters were also present, much grateful for their service!

Your commitment to accessibility and inclusion helps ensure that Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals have a voice in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts throughout the Coastal Bend region.
