Coast Guard Day is held each year on August 4. This day commemorates the founding of the US Coast Guard on August 4, 1790, by then Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton. At that time, the Coast Guard was called the Revenue Marine. On that day, the US Congress authorized the building of a fleet of Revenue Service Cutters, who were to enforce the first tariff laws established by the US Congress.
Our area is truly blessed to have a large and active contingency of Coast Guard Men and Women working to secure our Ports and our waterways, a well as our own security. Remember when they were helping all of us during Hurricane Harvey? They didn't come from out of nowhere. They live here! And while they were rescuing many of us....some of their own homes were flooding.
So take some time to give our Coasties a special thank you, an extra pat on the back, and let them know how much you appreciate their service!
