May is Mental Health Awareness month! 1 out of 5 people in the United States experience mental illness each year. Many who experience mental health issues do not know services available or how to cope with effects. To bridge this gap, the City of Portland Police Department's Mental Health Officers & Animal Care Services division are hosting "Paws for Mental Health" on Saturday, May 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the ACS Shelter - 1109 Moore Ave.

Paws for Mental Health is a pet adoption and mental health service event. Attendees will enjoy interacting with a potential pet in our shelter's play areas, experience how pets can boost mental and emotional health, & learn about the Police department's new Mental Health Division and mental health services available. The event will also feature fun giveaways! Free to attend, and all ages welcome.
