More Oysters, More Resilience: Participate in Public Site Selection

Oyster reefs are a critical piece of the resilience story here in the Coastal Bend. Community members are invited to participate in the site selection process for a proposed restoration network of oyster broodstock reserves throughout the Mission-Aransas Estuary. Up to 6 sites of 3-10 acres each will be constructed throughout the estuary. The meeting will be held at the Bay Education Center in Rockport, TX, on February 18th from 6 to 8 PM.

On July 1, the Coastal Bend Council of Governments (CBCOG) announced that RRP Cofounder Emily G. Martinez will take over as Executive Director. Congratulations, Emily!

Emily has more than 20 years of Economic Development experience in the Coastal Bend working with local governments, State and Federal agencies. She served as Director of Regional Economic Development for the organization and has been selected to replace the John P. Buckner, who served for as Executive Director for 46 years.

“We had several very strong candidates, but Emily stood out based on her robust experience in economic development as well as her exemplary performance in her role as Director of Regional Economic Development. Experiencing a local flooding event? With Hurricane season in full swing, the RRP encourages Texas Coastal Bend residents to check out our GeoRED Flood Event Report Tool!

The GeoRED Flood Event Reporting Tool is collected by the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies to develop a public informational database using local information from those directly impacted. With this information, we hope to utilize data to inform local decision-making regarding localized flooding. Users can zoom in on the map to identify the location of where they have seen flooding anywhere from their own backyard to streets in their neighborhood, storefronts, and more.

This site is not associated with any city or county government or for reporting emergencies and is not an emergency response resource. Check out this tool and submit a report today by visiting the RRP Linktree or www.GeoRED.org .

Have you heard about our GeoRED Mapping tool? Learn all about it and how you can use the platform yourself!

To strengthen our resilience to shocks, we must be able to anticipate and evaluate risks, including how various factors may impact key community assets. The RRP built this geographic information system (GIS) platform, Geospatial Resilient Economic Development (GeoRED), to provide our region with tailored, powerful tools for building resilience to disaster and economic risks.

The GeoRED online platform is available to the public and serves as a set of tools for local officials and experts to analyze and share data with other interested stakeholders. The tools include parcel level data, hazard layers, social vulnerability data, economic development data, and other data that are all unique to the residents and needs of each county.

Access the GeoRED online platform and its various tools for yourself by visiting GeoRED.org.
