Five of our six pups have found their forever homes… and now, it’s Hunky Hank’s turn. 🥹

As we continue moving toward closing RRHR, we would love nothing more than to see our final boy land in the loving home he’s been waiting so patiently for. 💔➡️💖

At just 9 months old, Hank was found all alone on the side of the road. Thankfully, a kind-hearted stranger refused to leave him behind. She got him vetted, searched tirelessly for an owner, and when no one came forward… she became his hero. 💖

Because she said "YES" to fostering, Hank became part of the RRHR family. When his foster home situation changed, he joined the founder’s pack—waiting patiently (and oh-so-deservingly) for his chance at forever.

Hank has done everything right.

🥹💖🐾 Our Beautiful Lia… Finally Home 🐾💖🥹

As our longest pup in rescue, nearly four years have come and gone… filled with events, photos, videos, and so many moments—and yet, through it all, Lia remained right where she started… with her foster family.

And maybe, just maybe… that was always the plan. 💫

What began as a simple visit to meet another dog turned into something more—thanks to fate and a gentle little nudge 😁 to consider fostering “Amelia” instead. That one small moment changed everything… and so Lia’s story began. 🥹

She came to us as a scrawny, unkempt little floof, picked up by ACS, in need of TLC, good food, and a safe, loving place to land.

And wow… did she ever hit the jackpot. 💖

Lia’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. She has some medical quirks—seizure-like episodes triggered by heat and overexertion—but with mindful care, keeping her cool, and not overdoing it, she’s thrived beautifully (and hasn’t needed medication even after all this time).

Because of those needs, she was often overlooked… but her incredible foster mom never wavered. She followed every recommendation, watched over Lia so closely, and loved her so deeply. And because of that love…

Lia didn’t just survive—she flourished. 🥹💖

And now, as we begin the heartbreaking process of closing the rescue and ensuring each of our pups has a safe, trusted future…

🥹Some stories don’t just come together… they come full circle. 💫

As Rocky Road Husky Rescue begins to close this chapter, it feels only right—on so many levels—that one of the final pups pulled to safety has found her way exactly where she was always meant to be.

💖🐾Our sweet Stella, now known as Wyakin—meaning Spirit Guide—is becoming part of a family that is incredibly special to this rescue. 🥹

What makes this so deeply meaningful is the journey behind it.

From the very beginning, when Rocky Road was just an idea in motion, Josh—the founder—reached out to someone he trusted to help bring that vision to life. What grew from that was more than just collaboration… it became a bond rooted in a shared love of this incredible breed, shared heartbreak in losing soul dogs, and a connection that turned into something that feels a lot like family.

Ten years of friendship—and as a dedicated volunteer from the very day the rescue was born—she has been one of the quiet, steady forces behind it all. The kind of person who helped shape not just what Rocky Road did, but how and why it did it. Along the way, that friendship grew into something even deeper—like a surrogate brother in Josh—and in the midst of loss, Rocky himself was so graciously (and lovingly joked about as) “shared,” becoming a surrogate boy when a soul dog was lost.

So when the time came for Josh to help guide the search for her “next girl,” it couldn’t be just any dog. It had to be special. And in a way that only fate could orchestrate, it led to one of the very last souls pulled to safety.

To Wyakin.

To today—when her adoption becomes official… on her birthday. 🥹

There is something incredibly profound about the timing, about the journey, and about the fact that after all these years, one of the final rescues has found her way into the arms of someone who helped make it all possible from the very beginning.

Some things don’t just happen… They come full circle in the most beautiful, meant-to-be ways.

Some dogs come into your life… And some were always meant to find their way home. 💖

✨💖🐾 Ziggy’s Fairytale Ending 🐾💖✨

Once upon a time, a beautiful shepsky named Ziggy found herself not in a tower… but in a loud, crowded Animal Control facility. It wasn’t the kind of place where fairytales usually begin. There was no knight in shining armor in sight… or so it seemed.

As fate would have it, Ziggy’s story landed in an email — just one of many sent out, hoping for a second chance. And then… a “YES” appeared. A foster stepped forward, and just like that, Ziggy’s next chapter began. 💖

Our founder (her version of a knight in shining armor 😉) made the journey (across town 😂)— not on horseback, but on four wheels 😂 — to bring Ziggy to safety.

Before heading to her foster home, Ziggy stopped at the vet for all those not so fun but necessary medical needs to make sure she was ready for her new beginning… and that’s when the news came:

heartworm positive. 💔

But every fairytale has its trials… and this is where Ziggy’s story starts to shine even brighter. ✨

Ziggy stayed close with our founder to begin treatment, and along the way, she caught the eye — and heart — of someone very special. Through the tough days, a bond formed… the kind that feels like it was written in the stars. 🥹

You see, this isn’t just a story.

🥹This is Ziggy’s story.

Our founder always seems to know exactly where each pup belongs (it’s a little magical… maybe even a little creepy 😂), and time and time again, Ziggy’s name kept coming up. Visit after visit, moment after moment… until one day, everything aligned just right. (she even tagged along to her foster brothers appointment just to see her future momma😁)

And maybe… just maybe… with the rescue preparing to close its doors, fate gave a tiny little nudge. Not a push, just a gentle “hey… have you thought about making Ziggy yours?” 💫

Because some stories aren’t meant to end unfinished.

And just like that…
Ziggy found her happily ever after. 🏡💖🐾

From a crowded shelter to a life filled with love, comfort, and someone who saw her for exactly who she was meant to be — this is the ending every rescue dog deserves.

🎉💖Big news for Brady 💖🎉

With the closing of RRHR, his foster mom made it official—he’s staying right where he is! 🐾 No more “foster” life… this boy is HOME, furever 🏡💕

Brady will be living his best life, chillin poolside with his momma and sister like the handsome king he is 😎☀️

All things have a beginning and an end and sadly, our journey is nearing its end. I have made the difficult decision to begin working on closing Rocky Road Husky Rescue. The last four years have been great, but with the decline in support financially and volunteers, we are no longer sustainable. We have a commitment to the dogs already in our program and this will not be an immediate closure. The biggest piece of the puzzle that is in the works is writing a proposal for another rescue to take on our assets, dogs in the program, fosters, and also to see if they would be willing to accept any dog that may need to be returned into their program. If necessary, we will continue to operate on a permanently closed for intake status until the pups in our care are adopted. Once all current dogs are either placed with another rescue or into their forever home, I will submit all necessary paperwork to officially close us. I hope you understand and I wanted to thank you all for the support and love you have shown us over the years. We have saved 37 dogs in this short amount of time, and while that may not seem like a lot, it has definitely made a difference in their lives.

🐶If you have a high-energy breed like a Siberian Husky, you already know—these dogs were built to move! Originally bred for endurance and pulling sleds, Huskies thrive when they have a job to do and plenty of outlets for their energy.

This month is the perfect reminder to prioritize their fitness and overall well-being.

Here are a few key aspects of canine fitness, especially for active breeds like Huskies:

🐕 Daily Exercise is Essential
Huskies need more than just a quick walk—they benefit from long walks, runs, hikes, or structured playtime. Without enough exercise, they can become bored and destructive.

🧠 Mental Stimulation Matters
A busy Husky is a happy Husky! Training sessions, puzzle toys, and learning new skills help keep their intelligent minds engaged.

💪 Strength & Endurance Activities
Activities like running, pulling (like sledding or carting), and agility work tap into their natural abilities and help build strength and stamina.

❤️ Weight Management
Even active breeds can struggle with weight if their activity levels drop. Keeping your dog moving and feeding an appropriate diet helps prevent obesity and related health issues.

🌡️ Be Mindful of Weather
Huskies are built for cooler climates, so as temperatures rise, be cautious with exercise. Aim for early morning or evening activities and always provide plenty of water.

🐾 Know Your Dog
Every Husky—and every dog—is unique. Pay attention to their limits and adjust activity to fit their age, health, and fitness level.

Let’s use this month as a reminder to get outside, stay active, and give our dogs—especially those energetic Huskies—the movement and enrichment they were made for! 🐶💚

🐶Hi frends, Brady here 🐾

Today I went on a nice, leisurely stroll down the road with my foster mom and my foster sister. I tried really hard to take in all the sights… but WOW there are a lot of things to look at 👀😅

Sometimes I get a little… vocal about it (okay fine, I might whine a bit), but I’m learning that if I just check back in with foster mom, everything is good again. She calls it “redirecting,” I call it “remembering I’m a good boy” 😉

Walks are becoming my thing—especially when I don’t let every leaf or shadow steal all my attention. I’m working on it, promise!

What I’d really love though? A FUREVER family to practice all my good boy skills with ❤️
