For Logan, volunteering at Mission of Mercy Medical Center has been more than an opportunity to gain healthcare experience; it has given him a firsthand look at what compassionate, patient-centered care truly means.
After graduating from Texas A&M University in May 2025 with a degree in Biomedical Sciences, Logan is currently preparing to take the next step toward his goal of becoming a physician. His long-term interests include acute and critical care and emergency medicine, but in the meantime, he has found a meaningful way to serve his community as a volunteer at Mission of Mercy.
As a Patient Care Technician volunteer, Logan helps with patient intake, gathers medical histories, assists with EKGs when needed, and fills in wherever help is needed. While his previous healthcare experiences have primarily been in operating rooms and emergency departments, his time at Mission of Mercy has introduced him to a different side of medicine.
“This has really been my first exposure to primary care medicine, and it has shown me what a good patient-provider relationship looks like,” Logan shared.
At Mission of Mercy, Logan has seen how patients can return regularly and build lasting relationships with their providers. He has witnessed how those relationships allow healthcare teams to follow a patient’s progress and truly see the impact of the care they provide.
He encourages anyone considering volunteering to get involved, especially those interested in healthcare. Logan has seen firsthand the tremendous impact Mission of Mercy has on uninsured patients throughout the community.
“There’s no telling how many times this clinic has intervened in somebody’s life in a way they didn’t even realize they needed,” he said.
As Logan works toward his goal of medical school and becoming a physician, we are grateful that he has chosen to spend part of that journey serving patients at Mission of Mercy. His dedication, compassion, and willingness to step in wherever needed are a wonderful example of the impact volunteers can make.
